Seymour, WW + Syd
After Seymour was freed from the spiderweb
***snip***
"Yeah, like that. Thanks Sydra! Where did you get that by the
way... " Says the Huge hamster turning around and suddenly seeing a
VW sized warrior bug come closer and turnaround to point it's arse at
him and Niples start to spray another jet of acid.
"Whoa!" Yelled the Hamster quickly spinning, grabbing Seymour, and
diving out of the acid spray.
***snip***
Seymour brushed his shirt down after Whitewolf has grabbed him. Thank you
very much for saving me, I do appreciate it but I dont need to be saved all
of the time, in fact I did see that one coming, it was quite
Whitewolf forced his head down as another bug launched an acid jet.
That really wasnt necessary I can look after myself
He turned around and
WW and Syd were walking away briskly while the decapitated bug that Syd had
shot began to scuffle with another.
Seconds later, WW was falling onto a big crator. Seymour sighed. "I'll stay
out of the webs, if you stay out of the crators!" and he bent down to give
the big hamster a hand back up.
He couldnt let his jealously for WW get in the way of a big of loyalty, the
hamster had just saved his life afterall, even though he would have gotten
free eventually of course.
---snip---
Sydra looked at the SUV truck sized crator and remarked, "What could
make a crator this size?!?"
The ground shook slightly, while Niples commented, "I've got this
horrible feeling we're about to find out..."
And the ground shook some more as three huge red glowing globs of hit
the area around them and quickly burned into the ground forming three
new smoking Suv sized crators, and that's when they saw them - three
tank sized bugs moving in line formation whipping thier tails forward
like a scorpion flinging some more glowing globs towards them.
"Take cover!!!" Yelled the hamster dashing towards a building.
---snip---
Interesting, very interesting! Exclaimed Seymour looking at the bugs.
These are larger than the soldier ant/spider bugs, but are still smaller
than
the large planet killer beetles. Whitewolf continued, as if on the same
thoughtline. This annoyed Seymour who liked to reach the conclusion before
everyone else. At school while watching a detective film with friends he
always made sure he had read the book first so that he could talk in the
film and make everyone believe he had unravelled the mystery before the main
character.
Planet Killers? Repeated Seymour. Youre giving the insects names now?
Well, it stands to reason that the large beetles only reason is to distract
a colony, confuse them and destroy their buildings and drive people into a
specific area while the smaller warrior bugs kill people off one by one. A
good simple strategy actually.
Yes
Said Seymour bewildered, he hadnt even figured that one out yet.
A
very good strategy, but one Im surprised had taken you so long to work
out!
The large bugs came closer, their tails shipping around, ready to throw more
glowing red blobs.
Really? You mean you already knew that? Asked WW.
Yes of course! Seymour lied. First time I saw them I thought-
distraction, I mean I was jolly well distracted at the time when I was
looking at it!
Sydra was shooting frantically at the bugs, Whitewolf jumped out from the
building they were hiding behind and covered her. Seymour aimed but realised
that his plasma weapon was out of ammunition, it clunked and whirred
violently as he pulled the trigger, but nothing apart from a fading glow
could be squeezed out of the depleted energy cell.
The bug fell Whitewolf was shooting, knocking Sydra to the ground. As the
hamster moved on to another target, a few soldier bugs that were lining up
behind them were trying to cut them off. But Seymour could see that the
third bug was advancing on Syd. He checked the pockets in his now rain and
insect-blood soaked khaki shorts for an ammo clip, wondering if the stains
would ever come out.
His fingers grabbed something, not a weapon- his trusty silver-plated
multi-use bottle opener. The multi-blade object could be used to open any
kind of wine, spirits or champagne bottle, (even the tricky Mars-range
Coconut-Martini bottles with the double fold twisted lid). The device had
never let him down, only on one occasion for a formal Admiralty business
party which had been very embarrassing for him.
With the rain pouring down on him, Seymour selected the sharpest blade and
ran up to the monster which was now almost on top of Syd. For king and
country. He said to himself. Well, Queen and country I suppose but shes a
bit of a slu-
Two long bony spider legs knocked him back. He swiped at them, catching one,
but the bottle opener glanced off like it was hitting metal. He dodged left
and right, the creature moving with him. An onlooker from the group at the
other end of the spaceport landingbay would think that they were dancing.
Using only four of its six legs to move quickly from side to side in a
complicated movement, the other two long spiny legs and the swishing tail
were free to attack Seymour. It reared up, being almost twice as high as
Seymour already and brought its front legs down.
Seymour dodged by diving underneath the creature. Seeing his chance, Seymour
stabbed the beast in its underbelly. The bottle opener couldnt penetrate
more than 5 cm so the damage was barely enough to make the creature squeal.
Moving about though, knocked Seymour to the ground. He looked up, seeing
only a huge body with six fast moving spidery legs, his arachnophobia
suddenly came back to him and he shivered, wanting it to end so badly. He
slashed the body some more, he could feel its texture now. Cold like metal,
and smooth in places, but with patches of hair, little spines protruding
from the skin. Almost like a pigs skin, if a pig were black and shiny.
Green puss or blood from the cuts started to drip into Seymours face and
hair, making him stop to wipe it out of his eyes. Oh
my
god
He said is
disgust as he tasted the slime, it was thick and gooey in his mouth. The
insect screeched in pain, a shrill high pitched noise which seemed to be
echoed in its own voice, as if it had more than one mouth, or was using the
mouths of other spiders around.
When he wiped it out of his eyes the creature was staring him in the face,
it had backed off and was now looking down in interest. It was now that he
realised that the creatures had two huge eyes, like houseflies, or were they
just eyes made out of lots of little eyes? It was difficult to tell. The
thing drooled from its pincers into his face.
The next thing he saw was a flash and the creature being shot backwards.
Whitewolf and Syd helped him up.
As youre naming the bugs, that ones an earwig. Seymour declared.
Well I wasnt
but earwig sir? Said Whitewolf, still in the habit of
calling him sir. Surely it should be scorpion because of the tail-
Earwig, Mr Whitewolf. Seymour said sternly.
Fair enough. Whitewolf humoured him and pointed in the direction of the
com tower through the darkness and the rain. It looks like the other group
have got trouble, wed better go and help them.
They ran across the landing platform between the two spider ships which were
halfway constructed. They had distracted half of the workers on one, but the
second still had lots of creatures working together, swarming all over the
ship in its construction. They were only just bigger than a Starbug, and had
Seymour any explosives on him he would have blown them up right now. Yet
going anywhere near them looked dangerous, insects working on each turned
around and watched them walk by, assessing if they were a threat.
Seymour hurried up the pace, the way the spiders moved as they watched him
walk by really gave him the creeps.
They joined the other group just as it appeared MP was riding a large
soldier bug.
If Im right, that one looks like a female
Seymour said. And the female
of the species are always more deadly than the male
But I thought you said they were sexless? Asked Cyd.
The soldiers are, Said Whitewolf. But this must be a leader, a breeder
.
Ahem Said Seymour and continued. Its an
erm
well a leader, it can
breed.
Fantastic.
