Belated acceptance speech

Who: Zack & Cubie
Where: The Promenade
When: Too late
Zack hiked up the steps of the stage set up across from Parrotts, then
stepped up to the microphone, a dazed smile on his face. "I would like to
thank all of you for this stunning award. I had no idea-"
"Oh give it a rest. We got here too late. They all left." Cubie stood
glaring up at him from the deserted promenade. "You'll be giving your
acceptance speech to a grumpy hologram."
"Two grumpy holograms." Cubie looked over with a start. Another Cubie
stood there, wearing an identical grimace.
On her other side was another Zack, hooting and clapping. "Yeah, Zack-baby!
YEAH!! Woo-HOO!"
Another Zack and Cubie appeared in a heap. The new Zack, well into his
eighties, struggled to his feet with a hoot. "Booyah! Who's da man?" He
tried to say more, but had to stop and bend over while alternately wheezing
and coughing.
The third Cubie (who looked as young as ever) shook her head, rolled her
eyes, then joined the first two. "Serves me right, letting him drag me here
again." She looked around. "And I'm early, too. This actually draws quite
a crowd."
Both Cubies groaned. "You don't mean . . ."
The new Cubie nodded. "Yep. Zack will insist on bringing you here
annually."
Cubie2 rubbed her temple. "I forgot about that. With all the reunions and
anniversaries we celebrate, I completely forgot about this one."
A commotion on stage caught their attention. The three Zacks were all
struggling to take the trophy from each other.
"It's mine, you old geezer!"
"Exactly! I earned it long before you did, you sassy little
whippersnapper!"
"But I'm the one residing in this timeline. The award should stay with me!"
"No! You'll break it!"
"What?!"
The chaos grew exponentially as more Zacks appeared and joined in the fray.
The ever-increasing knot of Cubies watched and commiserated. It was looking
more and more like the annual reunion every second.
Then Security arrived to break up the riot, and things got interesting . . .
OOC: Wow. Thanks. SOTM is something I don't really feel I earned (there
were a LOT of great posts in June), but I'm not going to complain. Sorry it
took me so long to respond.
