Blue Dwarf

The Blue Dwarf got into position, all departments aboard the vast spaceship were ready to engage the Dimension jump drive. It was a complicated and risky procedure, but everyone on board lived for kicks anyway.
 
Everyone was at their position in the drive room, with Whitewolf making himself busy, scurrying around making checks on all computer screens, only stopping to furiously scratch himself with his back leg for a second.
 
"Warm up the engines" called a very stern-faced Commander Niples standing in the centre of the drive room. He stood straight with his hands behind his back, his eyes fixed on the viewscreen.
If this worked, it would be a good thing to put on a job application form for the military command ship he always wanted to be on.
On the other hand, if it didn't work, he would be dead.
 
And it will all have been Captain Cannons fault.
 
"Engines are heated and ready to go sir" came the voice of Lt Cmdr Smegg over the intercom.
Cannon paused for dramatic effect. The crive room crew looked at him, they were all wondering if they were going to die- or where they would end up if it worked.
 
"Engage Dimension drive" said Niples, with absolutely no emotion in his voice.
 
Then captain cannon burst out of his office onto the Drive room. "I'm sorry I was late, are we there yet?"
 
Nipls watched the small viewscreen and the forward-facing window at the same time.
 
****Outside the Blue Dwarf*****
 
Every corner of the hexagonally shaped mining ship started to glow with bright white energy, then these pints of light suddenly ran forward along the length of the ship, illuminating every edge.
 The beams of energy shot forward, hitting the forward collector prongs of the ship, and split off in wider directions, creating six beams of blinding white light in front of them.
 
The beams seemed to fix on a certain area of space, not too far away from the ship itself and started spinning, to form a circle of energy in space.
 
 
*****Drive room****
 
The drive room crew flocked around the window to see the spectacle. The inside of the circle started to glow too, and even seemed to bend in on itself, as if space itself was not there any more.
The beams from the Blue Dwarf slowly diminished until they ceased all together. Smegg shouted over the intercom from Engineering.
"All our energy is gone, I can't keep it up any more."
 
But nobody in the drive room heard him. They were too busy staring at the swirling portal that they had created in front of the ship.
"Take us in" said Seymour slowly, talking to Nik Florentyn at the Navigation station.
 
 
The large blue mining ship edged forward towards the swirling gateway, and as it got closer, the ship seemed to get smaller and moved faster.
Within seconds, the large ship had gone inside and dissapeared with a flash of light.
 
****An undeterminable amount of time later****
 
"This is the United Peace ship Blue Dwarf to unknown vessel, please respond."
 
James Johnson slowly opened his eyes as he heard the voice. He was curently slumped over his computer, and didn't know how long he had been asleep. He looked up and saw that everyone else on the drive room was asleep too. The captain and commander seemed to be sprawled on the floor for some reason.
 

"This is the United Peace ship Blue Dwarf to unknown vessel, respond please."
 
Came the voice again. It was a pleasant voice, but strangely familiar. The voice sounded very polite but a little bit camp.
 
Johnson realised the voice was coming from the ship-to-ship communication speaker, which meant it was coming from another spaceship out there.
 
Commander Niples stirred and woke up. He lifted his head from the floor with a piece of gum stuck to his face.
 
Johnson pressed the "Talkback" button.
 
"Hello, who are you?" he said.
"My name is James Johnson from the United Peace ship Blue Dwarf. who are you?"
 
The communication officer didn't hide his surprise. "I'm James Johnson from the JMC Mining ship Blue Dwarf!"
 
"That's super!" said the voice. "It's sooo nice to meet you!"
 
Now James recognised the voice, it was his! But a little different...
 
By now the entire drive room crew had woken up. Kayn looked at the sensor screen and announced "Theres another ship out there, its exactly the same as the Blue Dwarf."
 
Niples looked out of the window. The ship was there, it looked exactly the same as theirs, but looked strangely a lot cleaner and a bit lighter in colour.
 
The man who called himself 'James Johnson' from the other ship heard the comment and said.
"We are the Blue Dwarf. The united peaceship Blue Dwarf. Who are you lovely chaps?"
 
Niples strided over to the com station where Johnson was and spoke into the microphone.
"That...ermm, may take a lot of explaining.. Can we come over to your ship and talk about it?" said Niples.
 
"That will be super! I'll tell the Captain you're coming over!"
The communication ended and everyone stared at each other for a minute.
 
"Is it possible we're in a parrallel universe with another version of the Blue Dwarf?" asked Niples with awe.
 
"It sounds like it" said Whitewolf. "They've even got another James Johnson working their communications."
 
Johnson scoffed. "That sounded nothing like me! He sounded more.... well...you know......a bit......"
Nobody knew what he was talking about until he made a hand gesture.
 
"Ahhhh" the drive room chorused.
 
Kayn pointed something out. "He said they were from the 'Peace ship' Blue Dwarf. Does that mean that in this dimension that the universe is completely peaceful?
 
"Theres a lot we should find out about this universe," said Captain Cannon. "If Johnson has a counterpart, it must mean that the rest of us do too, I'm looking forward to seeing who I am in this dimension."
 
"Probably a good Captain" Muttered Niples.
 
*****Later******
 
Niples picked a team of people to go over to the other Blue Dwarf. On the team was:

Communications officer James Johnson
Radar operator Kayn Bestrom
Security officer Frank Harris
Security officer Penny Lloyd
Security officer Drusilla Belladonna
Security officer Frank Banshee
Engineer Jason Smegg
Engineer Steev MAckEnzyyyyy
Scientist Phil Febuggure
Scientist Zack Jarvis
Dr Charles Keto
Barman Owen Numan
And Sam Young was piloting the Starbug that would take them there.
 
********Half an hour later*******
 
The Starbug carrying the passengers eventually docked with the other Blue Dwarf. While they were flying close, everyone couldn't help but think how nice the ship from this dimension was. Somebody had chosn a nice shade of green to paint the ship, which was calm and soothing, and peaceful.
 
The Starbug docked in the neat and tidy shuttlebay.
Everyone got out and were welcomed aboard by the senior staff.
 
Captain Cannon saw his counterpart. He immediately greeted him.
"Hello Captain Cannon, I'm Captain Cannon."
"Nice to meet you Captain Cannon" said the other Captain Cannon.
"This is a nice ship you have here" said Captain Cannon.
"Thank you" said Captain Cannon.
 
Niples saw that this was going to drive him crazy.
He spotted his own counterpart coming towards him. "uh oh" he said under his breath. The other Niples had longer hair, and also seemd to be a lot more muscular than him, in a way that would make most women swoon over the mere sight of him. He walked with a confident swagger towards Niples.
 
"Hello there!" shouted the other Seymour.
"Erm...Hello commander" said Niples.
The other man laughed a loud belly laugh. "Theres no need for rank here, that was abolished hundreds of years ago when it was realised that all people are equal and don't need to be ordered around by others.We only have one man in charge and that is the Captain. But everyone does what he says, not because they have to- but because they want to."
 
Niples cringed.
 
The other crewmembers seemed to find their counterparts as well, wether they liked it or not. Everyone from this universe seemed too happy, and too polite. It made Harris suspect they were up to something, but they were almost even too nice for that as well.
 
Harris watched as James Johnson met his counterpart. The other man seemed very happy to see him and insisted on taking him by the arm and showing him the ship.
 
Harris decided to explore the ship too, he thought it would be a better idea than to stand around and wait for his counterpart to show up. The mere thought of a happy and nice Harris would be enough to make anyone sick.
 
Kayn was dissapointed to see that his counterpart wasn't here. He was hoping to introduce the other Kayn to the Kayns that keep visiting him from the past and future, and wondered if the other Kayn had the same problem.
 
***Drive room***
 
The two Captain Cannons talked as they looked around the ship, Cannon was amazed at how well this ship was working. Everyone was going around with their business, and they even seemed happy about it.
 
"So is your dimension as happy and peaceful as it looks?" asked Cannon.
The other Will Cannon suddenly looked a bit more sullen. "Sadly no. Some people resent this way of life and go mad, we are transporting one such madman to a rehabilitation centre on Paradisia 245 actually. Once there he will be given the best care in the world, we hate to see anyone mistreated."
 
The other Cannon started smiling once again. "Now do you want some ice-cream?"
