Evaluation, Evacuation, then Evacuation off the ship.
Who: Two Nameless Engineers and Zodar
Where: Main Reactor, Engineering
"It's a Ford Fairstar!"
"No it's not."
"It is! It is! I've seen these things! Capable of Subspace Warp!"
"You don't even know what Subspace Warp is."
"Yeah I do!"
"You do not."
"Yeah, I do, it's where the streaky things form around the shuttle and it turns into a long blur thing."
"Spaghettification?"
"Yeah, that's the one. You go really really fast."
"My friend, you are wrong. You are a pitiful excuse for an Engineer."
Zodar walked in on the argument between the two Engineers.
"Here's Zodar he'll know. Hey Zo, is that shuttle over there a Ford Fairstar?"
"No, it's a normal Ford Transit Van. Notice the wheels. Fairstars don't have wheels."
"Perhaps it was an experimental all-terrain shuttle."
"Ok, ok, then explain to me why it's been flown directly into us and is now breaching the main reactor."
"It's wha..."
The two engineers lost control of their bowels and sprinted out of the room.
Zodar watched them run, as the brown bulges in their underwear became apparent.
"You idiots! We have to seal this area off before the leak spreads to most of the ship!"
The two kept running and turned around a corner out of sight.
"Fine!" Zodar yelled, "Go find yourselves jobs with Security!"
He turned to the panel on the wall and keyed in the lock down code for his sector. The huge door rolled into place with a thud. It looked like a giant cogwheel, a giant cogwheel that was at least 2 feet thick and 10 feet in diameter.
As the lockdown door closed, it glowed and hummed. The power being released was amazing, surging through the 2 foot thick door, the roof, the floor; Everything.
An evacuation message was made over the entire ship. This was deadly serious.
Zodar ran.
Upon reaching the shuttlebay, only one shuttle remained. Zodar ran aboard it and paused as he saw a familiar face.
"Where are we headed?" He said in between deep breaths.
"The planet. This zone." She pointed to the navicomp."
"If we're all going to different zones, the inhabitants of the planet may think it's an alien invasion. But then again, we're in space. Practically everywhere we go we're considered to be aliens..."
"Yeah, you have a point there."
The name of the pilot eluded Chris as he sat down in the co-pilot's seat. He couldn't remember the pilot's name.
"I'm sorry, but what's your name. I can't remember. I'm sure I've met you before."
"Me? I'm Amber." She said, negotiating a corner.
In any other circumstance, this would be a strange moment, but Zodar had got over the initial shock a week or two ago.
"And they have you flying this rust bucket to the planet's surface?"
"Shhh! I'm trying to concentrate on flying here..."
"Oh sorry. I didn't mean to distract you."
"SHHH! Shut up!" she said, her focus set on flying the shuttle until they were clear of the Blue Dwarf.
Zodar sat still, breathing as quietly as he could and holding the seat firmly so he didn't make a sound.
After a minute or two it was safe to engage the autopilot and Amber did so with a simple command to the computer.
She looked at Chris and laughed.
"Why are you all rigid like that?"
Chris looked at his arm, which looked like it had a form of rigor mortis, as did most of his body. Noticing this, he relaxed.
"Sorry, didn't want to put you off before."
"Nah, it's ok. I'm just going to get something to eat, keep watch while I'm away. Ok?"
"Sure thing, Cap'n." Said Chris giving a small joking salute.
