Family Ties, part 3

Part 4.
 
Vanessa was bored, Jay was asleep and for the last 6 hours she’d been staring at the tactical display listening to her Walkman. At one point she’d tried to make conversation with Kelly but discovered that she might as well have a conversation with a deranged scutter.
Suddenly the console blipped.
“DESTINATION REACHED” said Kelly.
“What?” queried Vanessa “Already?”
She looked out of the cockpit window and was amazed by what she saw. A swirly thing, a big smegging swirly thing, all swirly and thing like.
 “JAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY!” she yelled “WAKE UP!”
Jay muttered and rolled over.
“JAY!”
She hated being ignored. She picked up a mug from the station she’d been seated at and hurled it at Jay.
THUNK! “OW…MAN….”
“Morning!” Vanessa said sweetly.
“What now?” Jay muttered “You need me to fly around some SPACE?” he said sarcastically
“Were here big brother!”
“We are?” he asked “Where’s here?”
“Take a look”
Jay looked out of the window, and observed the swirly thing.
“Hey, a dimensional rift”
“You know what it is?” Vanessa asked raising an eyebrow
“They teach it at flight school,  Space corp. guidelines for trainee pilots, Chapter 18, Things not to crash into”
“Is this where the transmission the corp. received came from?”
“Yeah, these exact coordinates”
“I’ll bet you anything he’s on the other side” Vanessa said, still watching the rift swirling.
“Then what are we waiting for?” Said Jay walking across to the pilots seat.
He lined The Phoenix up with the centre of the rift.
He slammed the Throttle forward, the custom blue midget accelerated instantly, throwing Vanessa against the rear bulkhead of the cabin. “We got us a brother to find!” Jay said as the black shuttle plunged into the rift, disappearing In a flash of light.
