Family Ties, part 1

Who:- Jay/ Alota
Where:- Thier quarters, after rebuilding them 
 
“ALOTA!” Jay shouted through to the bedroom, “I’m going to pick up Vanessa, I’ll meet you in Parrotts”
“Ok honey” she replied poking her head around the door, hair-dryer in hand “see you in about 15 minutes”
Jay left and made his way to his sister’s quarters, he and Alota were going out for a drink tonight with Vanessa and Zodar and Eve. They wernt yet aware of the sistuation with the black hole, and seing as how power ahd been more or less restored, and Jay knew about Owens secret supply of alocohol, theysaw no hasrm ina little R'n'R 3 decks down Jay found himself outside Vanessa’s home. “Come on in Jay, I’ll only be about five minutes”
Jay entered Vanessa’s quarters and sat in the armchair. Picking up a book on the table next to it he read the title “Barry Rotter?”
“HEY!” shouted Vanessa from the bathroom “It’s a good book!”
“I’ll pass thanks sis”
Jay noticed a caged animal across the room and watched it playing.
“I hope you don’t mind bro’ but I invited Jenny Wildflower out tonight, she was feeling a bit lonely”
Jay grimaced, the last thing he wanted was to have his ex-girlfriend..who hated him..together with his wife.
“No…not at all” he lied.
Vanessa emerged from the bathroom. “how do I look?” she asked Jay
“Speaking as your brother Vanessa…you look like my sister, trying too hard” he joked She punched him on the arm. “What is THAT!” Jay asked pointing at the animal in the cage “that’s Cooch”
“Cooch?…”
“My chipmunk”
“Since when do you have a chipmunk?”
“Since two days ago”
“Fine….Lets go”
It wasn’t long before they arrived at Parrots, Jay ordered the first round of drinks and the siblings joined Eve, Zodar, Wildflower and Alota at the table they’d selected, Alota not all too pleased with Jenny’s presence.
It wasn’t long before Holly appeared on a nearby wall.
“Urgent message for Lt Cmdr Chrysler and Nurse Chrysler.”
“Patch it through here Hol” Jay replied.
“It’s marked sensitive nature, are you sure?”
Owen stepped across, “You can use my office guys, little privacy”
“Thanks mate” Vanessa said, and they headed for the office.
They listened eagerly. They were getting some great news.
 Half an hour later when the message was over they looked at each other “Shuttlebay in ten minutes?” they asked each other, both nodded and headed out of the office. Jay went back to the table. “guys…gotta leave the ship for a few days, both me and Vanessa,”
“Why?” Alota insisted
Jay whispered something in her ear “Good luck” she said back, and kissed him as he left. She knew that this was something the Chrysler siblings were gonna have to do alone………..
 
Later...The Phoenix
 
   The Phoenix rocketed out of the shuttlebay, Inside Jay and Vanessa Chrysler were excited, recently they’d received news that would change everything.
Piloting the shuttle, Jay’s mind wandered, memories flooding back………..
England, Earth Janurary 8 2096 
“Jay..you make sure you keep studying those starcharts and flight manuals” Said the man “I promise I’ll be back soon enough to start teaching you how to fly one of these baby’s” He said pointing at a nearby shuttle. Jay looked up at his brother Kingsley, there were four Chrysler siblings, Kingsley was his only brother 6 years his senior he felt closer to him than the others, although his sisters Vanessa and Anna were closer to his age, he and Kingsley had a special bond. He’d promised to teach Jay the ‘art’ of piloting, jays childhood dream…even though so far..Jay hadn’t been entirely successful..maybe that would change…one day.   He watched as Kingsley hugged the 13-year-old Vanessa and 11-year-old Anna, tears filling the eyes of both girls. His parents said they’re goodbyes and good lucks and Kingsley made his way up the embarkation ramp of his transport shuttle. Lt. Kingsley Chrysler was a test pilot for the space corp. he had been selected to fly the latest development in propulsion engineering, the ‘Wildfire’ drive, and for the next two months was going to be at a research base on Jupiter. Jay watched as the shuttle lifted off, disappearing into the stars.
 
England, Earth April 3, 2096 Jay Chrysler’s 16th birthday.
 
“Jay stop worrying, he promised he’d be back today” Said Susan Chrysler, Jay’s mother. “When has he ever let any of you three down” she gestured at Jay, Vanessa and Anna as she said this.
“I know mom” Jay replied “It’s just it’s been so long since I saw him, and I’m excited about being accepted for flight school”
It was then that Richard Chrysler, his father entered the room. “Honey” he said looking at his wife “Can you come here for a moment?”
She got up and left the room. Jay shrugged and turned back to his sisters, to continue boring them with tales of Melissa Dowland, the girl from school.  A few minutes later, his father walked in again.
“Guys…I have some bad news” He said, trying to find the easiest way of telling his children “You’re brother…. the test shuttle…something went wrong..they told me there was no way he could have survived, nothing was left, not even a bolt from the ships hull” The Chrysler siblings fell silent “I’m sorry, Kingsley..he..he’s dead”
 
That was 5 years ago. Five long years of thinking the eldest of the Chrysler siblings had been killed. Today, that all changed. The message they had received in Parrots was from Jay and Vanessa’s parents. They had received a communication from the Space Corp. The last words Jay whispered to his wife as he left blue Dwarf were
“My brothers alive” 
Now, Jay and Vanessa were determined to find him, and bring him home………….
