Tree Travel
Who: Marooned People, Tree, and Jay
Where: Up Several Trees
When: After We Climbed Said Trees
===================================
> "What now?" Keto yelled over
> "We wait" said Jay...
"Oh, of course! How silly of me to think you might actually want
to do something useful! I must have forgotten who I was talking to!"
called back Keto irritably.
"You volunteering to go down and 'do something useful', then?"
"...that's not the point!"
"Be these beasts not herbivorouseth?" called over Shakespeare, the
medieval voice echoing through the greenery.
There was a crash, and everyone glanced down to see one of the
triceratops headbutting the truck. A second time, and the vehicle
flipped over, the rear axle buckling.
"In theory, yes. Now, no," replied Jay. Suddenly his eyes widened
and he yelled, "Hold on!"
There was another almighty crash, and the tree housing Jay, Tara
and the twins shook, a dinosaur thumping into the bottom of it. The
twins immediately started yelling, as did Tara and Jay (albeit with
less blind terror and a little more sighted petrification).
"That tree won't stand for long," observed Keto.
"For once I have to agree," said Cerebrum reluctantly, clinging to
the branch beneath the doctor.
There was silence for a few more moments, broken only by the thump
as the dinosaur hit the tree again and the wails of the twins.
"Do you think we should do something?"
"I think that would probably be a good thing for them," nodded
Cerebrum sagely.
"And a bad one for us?"
"Most definitely."
"What if I just trod on your fingers until you fell off?"
"Then I'd grab your ankle and pull you down too."
"Just checking," said Keto, carefully moving his foot well away
from Cerebrum's hands. There was another thump, more yells, and then
a worrying cracking noise. The tree holding Jay, Tara and the twins
gave a jolt, and then slowly began to tilt sideways.
"FOR GOD'S SAKE HELP!" yelled Jay, the fear in his voice being
rapidly overtaken with anger.
Suddenly, there was a ululating cry, and Shakespeare came swinging
through the branches on what looked like a vine, swinging straight
towards the falling tree.
"AAA-AAAAAAAAAAAAeth!" he bellowed, reaching out one hand. Jay,
desperation giving strength that would probably not otherwise have
existed, grabbed Tara with one hand and stretched the other out,
grabbing Shakespeare's arm firmly. Tara scooped up the twins as the
tree gave a final lurch and collapsed.
Of course, not being the scientific genius (yet), Shakespeare had
neglected to realise that a single vine might hold a fully-grown
man's weight. Possibly even two. But not two, a fully grown woman,
and two rapidly growing twin children.
There was a loud snap, several ululating cries (I love that word),
and then a crump. Keto and Cerebrum looked down at the pile of now
very groggy vine-swingers.
From a neighbouring tree, Vanessa, Coffey and Wildflower called out
a warning as three of the dinosaurs, including the extremely large
one that had knocked over the tree, turned towards the small isolated
group, growling.
*RUSTLE!*
The Big Pink Tree, heroism apparently overcoming it's terror,
hurtled towards, branches outstretched, and swept up the four on the
ground before the dinosaurs even saw what was happening. Pelting
along, it passed under the tree containing Coffey, Wildflower and
Vanessa who, in a moment of extreme survival instinctiveness, swung
down and caught handholds in its upper branches.
Keto tutted and shook his head as the pink one headed towards
himself and Cerebrum.
"Honestly, do they really think they have a better chance of
survival in the branches of that cretinous vegetable? So it may be
able to run faster than the creatures, and therefore prevents them
reaching those in it's branches. So it can float, getting us across
the river. And so, at a pinch, we could burn it to stave off
frostbite. Does that make it a worthwhile escape route?"
Not receiving an answer, Keto glanced down.
Cerebrum was already several branches below, and reaching out a
hand towards the oncoming Tree.
"No attention, no attention at all!" glowered Keto as he hastily
followed.

OOC: Okay, so the truck's trashed and we're riding in a Tree. But
hey, it's transport, right? ;) Tag.
