Captain's office
Being matter transported is a disorientating business
but it was a picnic compared to the event that had
transpired on the planet below. As the universe
normalised, Hazel saw the team had been "beamed" (as
the term went from Earth's longest running tele-cult)
directly into Captain Cannon's office. The Captain was
sitting at his desk muttering about new crewmembers
when Johnson, Doom, Efof the alien, and Hazel
appeared. As they starting showering the Captain's
carpeting with dirt and anonymous bug bits from their
adventure, they realised something was wrong ; Steev
was missing. But that concern was cut short when
Captain Cannon noticed their presence.
"And who may I ask are you?" said the Captain. Nurse
Coffey suddenly realised he was talking to her. Then
to the others he commanded, "What are you lot waiting
for? Clear off now!"
Johnson shrugged and took Doom and Efof out of the
room before Doom could go on another spiel about "the
grim birdbaths of Dover eating your heart out with
neon plastic chopsticks of Leprosy" or Efof could
simply introduce himself. Hazel tried to ignore the
squishy bacon sandwhich in her pocket and the piece of
insect shell on her arm as she spoke to the Captain
for the first time.
"Nurse Hazel Coffey, sir." she said, saluting. More
dirt fell on the carpet. "Uh, nice office you have
here."
Without warning, the missing Steev fell out of an
overhead storage cabinet with a stunning crash onto
the office floor in a cloud of dust. "I've been in
more comfortable containers than that!" he announced
and stumbled out the door.
