Captain Niples "Croquet?"

Seymour was proud to have found this empty cargobay, it was a fantastic place to play croquet. He had set up the croquet rings in a pattern around the bay and was using his stick to knock his solid wooden croquet ball through them. So far he had got through 3 hoops and was now preparing for a tricky shot through the fourth.
 
His concentration was shattered when Chief nav officer Kayn Bestrom and young Mike Mackenzie walked through the door."Captain, we both tried your office but you weren't there, so we had to ask Holly and he told us you were down here."
 
"Oh yes, I'm sorry." replied the captain, lining up his shot. "I meant to tell you both to meet me for lunch, but now is as good a time as any."He hit the croquet ball and it rolled perfectly through the hoop.
 
Niples gave the stick to Mike while he talked more in private to Kayn. They turned just out of Mike's earshot."Young Mike here is interested in becoming a pilot, I know he's a bit young at the moment but I think it would be great to give him something to do, to give him a better chance of getting a job when he's a bit older. Plus, being a kid on a ship like this is a little boring and I'd rather have him doing something constructive than spray-painting the walls of the promenade if you know what I mean."
 
Kayn groaned, now he had to teach someone else how to fly. He had enough with Efof making mistakes- hell, even Kayn made mistakes, and plenty of them. He'd crashed more Starbugs than anyone else in the Mining corporation. And he was only 17, he was hardly a veteran himself.
 
They both turned to hear Mike shout "How do you play this anyway?"
"Its a bit like golf, but with hoops instead of holes." Seymour called back.
 
"So is that alright?" The Captain asked Kayn.
"Well he seems like an alright kid, he wont be any trouble will he?..."
 
"Fore!!!" Shouted Mike Mackenzie as the solid wooden ball flew past their heads, bounced off two walls and dented a cool air pipe.
 
"He'll be fine" said Seymour. "Under your supervision of course."
 
Kayn didn't look too impressed.
Seymour sighed. "Alright then, you'll get pay-and-a-half while he's in training."
Kayn smiled.
"Ok then." he said.
