Niples furrowed his brow.
 
"We do not allow just anyone for the away teams we conduct on this ship. The crewmembers are chosen specifically and only the selected few are granted permission to leave the ship via shuttlecraft."
 
Huh, thought Roskev. The loonies on this ship probably steal their own shuttles and follow them down to the planet anyway.
 
"...Being chief engineer gives you a priority when we need anything technical doing on an away mission, this will be very important if a shuttle breaks down or we find a piece of alien and/or advanced technology."
 
The woman looked unimpressed.
 
"You get to order people around." suggested Niples as a desperate measure to get her to agree. The other possible candidates for the position would not have been so argumentative about the rise, they would have accepted the job and the pay rise and forgotten about the actual job. Niples hoped that Roskev could do the job better.
