it's all about the game
Dirk's room had been trashed and in big red letters was painted onto the wall.
"BE READY TO PAY THE PRICE"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At first, Dirk was furious. Then, the glass ball began to glow with its pink
radiance again. As he looked into it, all feelings of anger were removed. In
its place a big smile came across his face. "So, that's how it's going to be?
I can play this game just as well as anyone else." He hid the ball were no one
would ever find it and tidied up the room just a little.
Dren came wandering in a few moments later and saw the message painted on the
wall. "What happened here?"
"That petty thief got out of stasis. Now he's got people trying to help him get
revenge on us for putting him there." Dirk didn't look up from his copy of
Animal Farm as he spoke.
"Should we be scared?" Dren was confused by the whole situation.
"No. That's just what they want, and I'm not giving it to them." He turned a
page. "Besides, I've got the upper hand. A little something they don't have."
"What's that?" As he thumped the ashes from his cigarette to the floor, his
gaze returned to the message.
"Among other things, patience and intelligence."
"How about that?" Dren pointed to the red letters. "Are you going to just leave
it there?"
"Sure. Why not? It gives the room a little flavor." Dren started to get
worried. Dirk didn't look, or sound, exactly like himself. He was about to say
something when Dirk looked at him and spoke, "Four legs good, two legs bad."
"That's it. He's lost it. Time to get the nice men in the white shirts to take
Mr. Bell here to the padded room," Dren thought to himself.
