Cmdr Niples "Conspiracy theory"

The Gym
Shipdate 13.10.2100
(after we picked up Kayn. The BD is now continuing towards Ffion)

Seymour Niples poked his head around the corner of the gym door, all he could see were candles in the darkness.
Then he saw the Captain sitting cross-legged in the middle of the basketball court.

Niples entered and stood next to the Captain in a formal militart-style pose. He saluted but the Captain didn't notice.
"Sir?" asked Seymour.
Cannon sighed and slowly opened his eyes. "Can't you see I'm meditating? I'm very stressed!"
"With all due respect sir..." said Niples in his most 'arse-licking' tone of voice "...you have nothing to be stressed about!"

"I have to be calm at all times" bulshitted the captain. "It's very good for morale, the crew need someone they can look up to."

Niples cut straight to the point. "Have you contacted Earth Command about the alien ship we saw?"
"Nope" stated Cannon calmly. "We don't even know if it is an 'Alien' ship. For all we know it could be a new kind of fighter the Secret-service is working on. We should probably keep our noses out."

Seymour frowned and stormed out of the Gym towards his office.

Commander Niple's office

Seymour walzed into his office and faced the computer screen.
"Holly!" he shouted.
The face of Holly appeared on the screen, you could tell his circuits had been nibbled by the Captain's pet rat by the way he twitched.
"Get me a long distance call with someone at Earth Central Command." Niples ordered in his best voice of authority. Even though authority wasn't one of his best points.

After half-an-hour of talking to annoying secritary's he managed to get through to an Admiral in the Earth Defence Force.
The bearded face of a greying Admiral "Granadilla" came onto the computer screen. At first he didn't even look at the younger Commander, he just asked: "Weapons, fighters or marines?"

"Sorry?" asked Seymour.

"Weapons, fighters or Marines?" repeated the impatient military officer.
"Ermmm, neither sir." said Niples. "I'm calling you to inform you of a potential threat to the Human race."
The Admiral looked up, his attrention had been caught.
"Well?" snapped the impatiant man.
Niples drew in a deep breath and said. "We saw an alien ship."
If the Admiral had been any less bored, he would have laughed at the notion.

"Do you know how many calls we get about aliens Mr....."
"Niples, Seymour Niples of the JMC Bl...."
"We get loads of people saying 'Aliens kidnapped my cat', 'Aliens soiled my underpants', 'My stopmother is an Alien'. And all of them are bogus."
"But this is different sir," said Niples a bit pathetically. "We are in uncharted space, there could be any kinds of lifeforms out here."

"And I suppose you want a squadren of fighters sending to you in case you see any 'aliens' I suppose?" droned the ageing Admiral.
Niples eyes lit up. "it would be nice........"

"And a rank of Marines too? Hell, why not just bring your ship into our drydock and we'll fit you some warship beam turrets to your hull shall we?!!!"
"That would be nice too...." whispered Niples.
"Well TOUGH!" shouted the Admiral, spitting globules of spit onto the screen. "Because the military is not going to fund that kind of work on a mining ship."

Niples started to go red. This may be a mining ship, it may also be a heap of scrap-iron, but the Admiral had no reason to look down on him as an inferior.
Afterall, a ship was only as good as it's Captain..........

The Blue Dwarf didn't stand a chance.

Grasping for straws Seymour quickly said "But I can get you proof!"
"Like what?" Said the Admiral.
Seymour went blank. They had no proof, no sensor scans, no photographic evidence. All they had was the sighting of a blurred ship on the main viewer, and they didn't even tape it.

"I can get you proof, just give me time." said Niples. "We're in sector 51R at the mo......"
"What sector did you say?" asked the Admiral going pale.

"Sector 51R" repeated Seymour.
The admiral shifted in his seat. "There is nothing in that sector of space.... I recommend you move on and continue your search for the Red Dwarf somewhere else."

With that the Admiral turned the video conference off, leaving Niples in the dark.

The Gym

Seymour Niples walked up to Cannon and coughed to alert his presence.
"I just talked to Admiral Granadilla, there's definately something dodgy going on here......"
"See I told you." said Cannon breathing deeply and moving his head around in circles. "its not aliens at all, its just the secret service testing new ships- nothing for us to worry about."
