Happy little campers

Who: Team 1
Where: Planet Surface
When: Setting up Camp
The equipment had been unloaded from the Starbug and the team was
busy creating shelters. No one really knew why they all couldn't
sleep the night inside the Starbug, but their guess was that there
wasn't enough room for them all.
Chris had finished pegging down a cover when his eye caught on the
speckled blood at his feet and he remembered the possible danger here.
"I don't like the look of that blood." Zodar said, kneeling down for
a closer look. "DJ, hand me that gun, would ya?"
DJ looked at Chris for a second, then decided that it was ok to give
him a gun with live rounds. But... she'd have to show him how to use
it and use it safely before they went anywhere.
She fetched a power rifle, gave it to Chris and began to give him a
crash course in gun control when Zodar unexpectedly took the gun,
inspected the barrel, loaded it, cocked it and placed it in a holster
on his utility belt.
"I didn't know you had knowledge on firearms..." DJ said in amazement.
"I don't. I just learn fast." Chris said jokingly. "Nah, I do. I'm a
good shot too..." Chris said, noticing the 8 year old bragging voice
he used. "I can look after myself, but it wouldn't hurt to have
someone watching my back." They smiled to each other.
"Right, if you are finished getting all mushy, Zodar, we need to know
what direction we need to walk in." said White Wolf.
"I know roughly, but we need to be exact to cut time in the morning."
Joe added.
Chris was now slightly red in the face, but he soldiered on.
"Consider it done, sir." Chris said, reaching for the instrument he
needed. "According to this, sir, we need to travel from this
position, North-West, or 319 degrees."
The group looked puzzled as they searched their pockets for a compass.
White Wolf had found his without any fuss.
"That way." Chris pointed towards the thickest part of the
surrounding forest.
Cries of "Oh..." rang out in unison as everybody understood.
White Wolf stepped in, "So everybody knows, your compass is on the
back of your belt." and he placed his back in it's pouch.
"What do we know about the blood here?" Alota enquired.
White Wolf continued, "The analysis showed that it was not human, but
be on your guard tonight when we settle for the night."
"Yes sir!" Zack said.
Judging from Zack's reaction to the blood before (or what caused the
blood to spill), Chris didn't think Zack had any intention of
sleeping that night. Then again, Chris didn't have any intention
either;
You can't use a gun when you're asleep...
This felt like a dangerous place...
