finding the signal

The console in the cockpit blinked into life, and Jay glanced across at it
from the pilots seat.
"you've gotta be kidding me...." he murmured to noone in particular
"THERE?..."
In the main section his voice came across the internal com,
"Commander White Wolf, could you come up here for a moment"
White Wolf got to his feet, from where he was sat next to Alota and Zack and
climbed the steps into the cockpit.
"Is there a problem Jay?"
"I've found where the signals coming from, It's a few miles starboard,
but.." he stopped as he turned his attention back to the viewport
"but?..." asked White Wolf
"sorry", Jay replied "BUT, its coming from the middle of the forest, which
is too dense to land in, from what i can tell theres nowhere to land in at
least a 100 mile radius"
"Keep circling for as long as it takes, theres gotta be somewhere we can
land on this rock, we cant let whatevers giving of that signal get away from
us, it could tell us what happened to the Red Dwarf"
Jay nodded, and went back to his control stick, White Wolf went back into
the central section to tell the others.
form the mid section Jay heard cries of
"Are you having a f****ng laugh?!"
"Cant he just land on a branch?.."
and
"A pox on ye wretched foliage!"
After about an hour, Jays voice came over the com system again,
"good news and bad news, whaddya want first?"
DJ replied "Good news first.."
"I've found a landing spot"
"And the bad news?" asked Alota
"Were left with at least a two day walk back to the target2
"Take her down Lt." White Wolf ordered
"Copy that, hold tight, I'm gonna skim a few trees doing this, trajectory I
have to take is a little steep, gonna get bumpy.."
The Starbugs landing legs shredded the tops off about 50 metres of trees
before its hovered above the clearing, before Jay set down smoothly in the
tight space avaliable.
The away team suited up ready, Jay powered down the engines and they made
their way down the gangplank to the ground. Jay turned and pointed his keys
towards the ship,
with a loud WHOOP WHOOP the lights flashed and the wipers did a quick swipe
across the windscreen glass.
"Gotta be careful parking in the forest,..kids from the estate will have
your stereo quicker than anything" he informed the others as they glanced at
him quizzically.
