Medibay Checkup - Ironic As It Is
The medibay doors swished open. Ensign Wildflower and the Big Pink
Tree looked up (well, one looked up, the other tilted one branch
quizzically).
Dr Keto walked in, hardly glancing at the two of them. Looking
back at the cards she held in her hand, Ensign Wildflower
asked, "Aren't you supposed to be at some play thing?"
"I'm not in the next act, for your inf..." began Keto, then did a
double-take.
"Are you playing cards in my medibay?" he demanded, turning to face
them. The Big Pink Tree quailed slightly, but Wildflower just
shrugged.
"Yes," she replied, "We finished Scrabble."
"Really? How wonderful for you," spat Keto, "Which one of you two
vegetables won in the end?"
"Temper temper," admonished Wildflower, as the Big Pink Tree looked
faintly insulted*, "High blood pressure is bad for the heart, you
know."
"My heart is perfectly fine!" snapped Keto irritably, "I *am* a
doctor, you know, *ensign*. Now what exactly are you still doing in
this room?"
Not catching the muttered 'let alone this ship' comment, Wildflower
replied, "I'm recovering from my operation and my illness."
"FOR GOD'S SAKES IT WAS A HICCUP!" screamed Keto, "And your
operation went fine, without a hitch! There's no reason for you
still to be here!"
Ensign Wildflower sighed, and put her cards face down on the table,
muttering something about a full house. As the Big Pink Tree shook
its canopy and pushed a pile of matchsticks towards Wildflower, she
looked up at Keto.
"If my operation went without a hitch," she said, "Then how exactly
do you explain THAT?"
She pointed over Keto's shoulder. The doctor gritted his teeth
angrily and glanced behind him.
His teeth stopped being gritted as his jaw dropped.
On the shelf behind him sat Ensign Wildflower's appendix, in an
observation jar. Keto had been told by Shakespeare that they were
going to keep it for observation because "there might be some minor
anomaly"...
"SHAKESPEARE!" bellowed Keto, more out of habit than any actual
expectation of a response.
Inside the jar, the appendix was almost pressing against the glass,
having grown to several times its original size. It was also a faint
blue colour. And was flashing, pulsing light out of itself.
"So?" asked Wildflower as Keto turned back, "How do you explain it?"
Keto hesitated for a moment.
"...can I fetch you some more matchsticks?" he asked eventually.

OOC - what sound does yellow make? 'Cl', the other hand makes
the...no, wait, wrong riddle. It's not something like 'ow!' is it?
Yell "ow"? Okay, just ignore me, my mind is obviously not up to any
sort of standard right now (first day back at school and all).
