After coming off duty Seymour headed to his favourite bar on the promenade 'The Blue Quasar'.
As he entered he saw the Navigation officer Kieran Loes sat on a bar stool sipping a drink and watching the TV hovering over the bar.
 
"Not gonna swivel on these stools too are you?" joked Seymour as he walked up to Kieran.
"Oh Commander I didn't see you there..." said Kieran.
"its ok, we're both off shift you can call me Seymour." said Seymour.
Kieran took another gulp of his drink and Seymour ordered a Budweiser.
"how's your first week as Navigation officer on a mining ship been?" asked Niples, trying to start a conversation.
"Not too bad...." said Kieran "...considering we havn't actually flown anywhere!"
"I know, I know," said Niples. "I trained as a pilot too and I don't like to hang around anywhere for too long either. You should try using the VR suites, I know a great piloting program."
"Really?" asked Kieran, "last time I went on I could only find a program called "MS Basic piloting for dumbasses, it wasn't very inspiring I can tell you!"
"Here" said Niples, offering a disk to Kieran, heres the program- I'll let you borrow it for a while."
 
Niples noticed that Kieran was drinking some pretty hard stuff, it had vapour coming off it and seemed to be slowly dissolving the glass.
"You'd better not drink too much of that stuff" said Seymour indicating the pilot's glass. "Especially because your shift starts early tomorrow morning when we leave the station, you'll need to be sober to fly the ship out."
 
Kieran laughed him off, "I bet I could drink twice as much as you and still be half as sober!"
"That sounds like a challenge!" said Niples.
Kieran said nothing.
"Your on!" said Seymour reaching for the pan galactic gargle blasters.
