The gavel is actually the little wooden hammer that auctioneers and
judges whack on the base. (Close enough!)

Is this how the play really goes or are you making something up? (I've
never seen it before. Maybe I should sometime - classics aren't always
horribly dry, as evidenced by the 1937 movie production of "Jekyll &
Hyde" I saw in English literature class)
And by the way, nice post! Haven't seen all that many of those around
lately! (Now if I could just think of something to contribute... I used
to come up with all these creative ideas but that was back in the days of
maybe only 4 or 5 people in this group; now everyone else comes up with
all the ideas and anything I do think of just won't fit in!)
