"Oh yeah... that." said Dirk. "Look, I'm having a shitty day. Are you going to
punish me or not?"
"Well that depends..." said Niples, fiddling around with the lava-lamp on his desk.
"On what?"
"What's a ten letter word meaning 'to show too much willingness to serve or obey' ".
Dirk inwardly groaned. As if the entire crew hadn't had enough of Holly asking
crossword questions without the captain doing it as well.
"Obsequious" said Dirk, after a few seconds. Something which he was not.
"Although I may not be a prime example of either Space Core or JMC regulations,
I do not attack unprovoked, Sir," continued Dirk. "As for the fight with
FeBuggure, I think that you should be aware of the fact that I was attacked
first along with another crew member, Jacob Stone. Both of us were minding our
own business in the Parrot's when FeBuggure and a female companion called us
outside and pushed us down a stair well without allowing us a chance to defend
ourselves. If it is Space Core regulations to allow superior officers to batter
and endanger the health and welfare of subordinates, then it sucks. If it is
also against Space Core regulations for a man to defend himself and his honor
then throw me in the brig. I punched FeBuggure because he was the one who
attacked me; and, despite what some may feel about my attitude, I am too much of
a gentleman to strike a lady."
