Final Mechanation
> "Ok, this will be tricky, but as long as we folow the intructions,
> the end product will be the best robot this competition hath ever
laid
> eyes upon," said Shakespeare.
> Coffey nodded and the Big Pink Tree jumped up and down happily.
> "Lets get to work."
They pushed the Ointmentator II into the large spacious room next
to the loose panel hiding place and locked the door. Shakespeare,
Coffey and the Big Pink Tree stood looking over the refridgerator.
"I have to admit," said Coffey as her eyes wandered over the
shiny/spiky cooling unit, "It is pretty intimidating."
Shakespeare grinned.
"Thy spikes will emit Ointment onto foes many and various," he
stopped and corrected himself. "Onto all the competitors."
"What are we going to do with all the new equipment?" asked
Coffey. The Big Pink Tree started hopping up and down.
"No we can't!" said Shakespeare at it. He turned back to
Coffey, "Well, my dear, we are going to improve its capabilities ten
fold as well as giving it the most pleasing aesthetic look of all the
capabilities." He picked up a can of bright blue spray paint and
shook it quickly.
"We are going to turn this mechanical demon into the most
fashionable thy will see," he stated. Coffey grinned and placed her
arms on his shoulders as he knelt down by the back of the robot.
"Well, what do you want me to do?" she asked, playing with his hair
and trying to envisage a style of vermilion and violet highlights.
He craned his neck and looked at her, his mind in deep thought,
then he clicked his fingers.
"Ah, yes, the purple cloth, could you cut that into eight strips
length ways?" he asked.
"Of course, William," smiled Coffey, lightly kissing his forehead.
She stood up, picked up a pair of scissors and the roll of cloth and
began work. Shakespeare lined up the spray paint and started to
colour Mercutio with it, creating lines of fabulous colours across
the many panels.
The big Pink Tree jumped up and down and began rustling its leaves.
"No," murmured Shakespeare, spraying a line of green along the door.
The Big Pink Tree was silent, before rustling again, slightly more
hurriedly.
"No," said Coffey, cutting the fourth strip of cloth.
There was silence. The Big Pink Tree stood and hopped over to the
door. Then it hopped back over to the pair.
It rustled quickly.
"NO," said Shakespeare and Coffey in unison, still working on their
tasks.. The Big Pink Tree drooped its branches sadly. Shakespeare
looked up and sighed.
"Ok, tell you what," started Shakespeare. The Big Pink Tree lifted
its branches happily.
"You can be the guard, keep watch and make sure no one comes in
here." The Big Pink Tree gave the impression of nodding by moving
the top of its trunk up and down and hopped over to the door before
taking up a sentry post. It found a fire extinguisher next to the
doorway and hid behind it.
Coffey and Shakespeare continued working, long into the hours.
*
Shakespeare stood up with Coffey holding his side. He put his arm
around her neck and kissed her on the nose. She laughed warmly and
looked up at him, a proud smile over his face.
"My dear, we hath done it," they looked at The Ointmentator II. It
was indistinguishable from what it had looked like previously. Many
of the wall panels were now missing, and the fridge was coated in
burnished steel coloured armour. The armour had many tiny holes and
by pushing a button, the spikes which had lined the Ointmentator II
could now be extended trough the holes. They even had the Ointment
dispersing ability as well.
The cloth had been used to make eight trails coming off from the
back of Mercutio, and the wood and glue had been used for the
wheels. Mercutio could now raise itself from the ground on two
stirrups, and bots would pass underneath it.
As for the uranium, Coffey and Shakespeare had come up with the
ultimate secret weapon, but they were saving that for the final
battle.
They sighed happily and looked on at the bot.
"Keto will be pleased," said Coffey.
"Will he?!" came a low and angry voice from behind them. They
heard a click, and turned around slowly. Keto was standing behind
them, a manic look on his face. His arm was held out and in his hand
he held a cocked ointment bottle.
"Step away from the Ointmentator II," he said, motioning them with
the Ointment bottle.
"Calm down, Keto, you don't wanteth to do this," said Shakespeare,
positioning himself in front of Coffey, so that she would be safe.
"What's in his bottle?" asked Coffey.
"Ointment 732, dissolver," said Shakespeare worriedly.
"Ah," said Coffey.
Keto grinned manically and his finger tightened around the spray
mechanism.
Then he stared at Mercutio. He looked puzzled for a second and his
face returned to normal.
"Oh, I thought you'd destroyed it," he said. He pocketed the
bottle. "Sorry about that...wow, this actually looks quite good."
"The improvements are vast," said Shakespeare. "And we've a new
team member." He looked at Coffey and held her tightly.
"Hazel is now part of the Ye Olde Ointment Team."
Keto nodded, "Well, if we don't get this robot down to engineering
and enter it, then there won't BE an Olde Ointment Team."
The three of them moved the robot, now easy to control, and left
the room. Keto looked left and saw a sleeping Big Pink Tree as they
entered the corridor.
"Um, Lawrence, Hazel" he said pointing leftwards.
"Yes, Charles?" asked Shakespeare, looking up from the floor.
"Is that the Big Pink Tree?" he asked, slight horror entering his
voice.
"Yes, I'm afraid so," said Hazel.
"Oh, no," said Keto shaking his head.
The Big Pink Tree heard Keto's voice, awoke and bounded over to him
like a dog that hasn't seen its master all day.
"ARGH, get it off of ME!" he shouted and ran along the corridor,
arms in the air. The tree followed. Shakespeare and Coffey remained
motionless, Mercutio behind them.
"Isn't it so good to see friends back together?" he said,
laughing. Coffey nodded in agreement.
"Definitely," she said, laughing happily. Shakespeare put his arm
around Coffey's waist and walked along the corridor with her back to
the lift with Mercutio in tow.
