Compromised

"I'm sorry. I wasn't fast enough to save your arm." Jamie said, his hand twitching where the metal pole he had used as a weapon had almost chemically bonded to his skin. blisters were all over his palm from the heat, but at least he had got there before any more damage could be done.

Things ran in slow motion, she could feel the blood as it slipped down her side, but all she could do was stare in numb agony from her place collapsed on the floor. She had never seen her arm from this angle. She ran her fingers over the scars that circled her wrist and along up the arm to the bloodless severing. Cooling molten metal had dripped on the arm, on the cut, rendering it unable to be re-attached.

That's when it hit her again. She burst into a new set of tears.

Cass rushed over and started punching in commands to the nearest console before swearing and looking down as Jade with an anguished expression.

"She's compromised the remaining nanites... It looks like they've been rendered inert..." Cass knelt down by Jade.

"You can fix it? You can fix them right?" Jade bubbled, her eyes imploring her friend.

"I... I can try." She said, knowing that it was futile, but willing to try if only for Jade.

"I need to stop the bleeding." Jade said, fumbling in her pack one handed for something. The stump of her left arm reflexively moved as if her hand was holding the bag still for her to unzip. Jay stepped in and took the field kit away from her.

"I can do that." Jay said, reaching for a tourniquet and an anaesthetic. "600 years in the STCP, and you learn a trick or two." He eased the needle into the remaining muscle tissues and injected the fluids.

"I can do it. I'm the doctor. I need to be able to do it." Jade reached for the loop of fabric tourniquet.

"Yeah, we know you can do it. Sometimes you have to let us help though right?... This will hut like smeg." He said, Putting one hand on Jade's shoulder to keep her still and pulling the loop of fabric tight.

Jade grit her teeth and hissed out, the drugs numbing the pain.

"Lookout! She's going to re-appear in her light bee!" Ransom yelled, skidding into the room and stopping as he saw the scene.
