Midnight-ish...
Drawing to the middle of the night, Niples called for the music to be
cut. The lighting crew dimmed all spinny lights and trained a single
spotlight on the Captain as he walked up onto the stage area.
He took centre view and held the microphone up to his lips. After an
electrical squeek from the speakers, he said:
"As you all probably know by now, I have been appointed the new
Captain of the Blue Dwarf. It has also been my duty to choose a new
first officer to take the command seat when I am absent. At first I
looked for an officer who was dedicated, hard working, someone who is
good at his job and would be fit for command. And then I decided
there was no-one like that aboard so chose the best possible
canidate...."
He waited for a few giggles to come from this last sentance, but even
fewer did than he expected. Someone shot a piece of lemon merangue
past his shoulder instead.
"...Anyway.... I decided that all of you with important positions on
the ship as department heads were good candidates, but you are in the
best possible positions already, so I didn't want to mess any of you
around. So the person I chose to be promoted to Commander and to be
the new first officer will be....."
The crew were silent, eager to know who the next commander would be,
but also because they wanted the music to be put back on again.
Someone yelped as he shot a grape into his foot.
"Your furry friend and mine, WHITEWOLF!!!!!!!"
The crowd cheered, unsure why a 6 foot 1 inch hamster should be
promoted ahead of them, but they were all very much drunk so they
didn't yet care.
The huge hamster stopped occassionly amid the crowd congratulating
him to shake a few hands, and recieve a few heartfelt hugs from some
of the female crewmembers. Rather than using the stairs, White Wolf
scuttled up to the stage. And began to walk over to Seymour, and
vigorously shook his hand, before accepting the microphone being
offered.
The overgrown hamster looked out at the crowd, and bringing the mic
up to his face, he begins "First - I'd like to thank our new Captain,
Seymour Niples, for entrusting me with this awesome responsibility."
White Wolf turns and bows towards Seymour, and the crowd erupts in
more cheers.
White Wolf turns back to the crowd and continues amid the
cheering "and Second, I'd like to thank each and every one of Blue
Dwarf's crew! For it will be an honor for me to serve as your First
Officer. I must admit, I really didn't expect any of this, so he has
me completely by surprise here, which doesn't happen very often. I
suppose it was a tough decision; having to choose who would take your
place while you were out or busy, and which of us you'd rather have
to argue with and deal with everyday. But, tell me, did it really
come down to merely choosing between the furry hamster or Major
Harris, Seymour?"
The overgrown hamster turns toward Captain Niples and smiles amid the
crowds several laughes and then continuing "No, No, you don't have to
tell us... I think we already know. But now that I have to do your
old job Seymour, I suddenly realise, I really don't any idea what a
first officer actually *does* on the Blue Dwarf!" the crowd laughs
and the huge hamster pauses, then turns back to the crowd and then
continues "But, I'm quite sure our new *Captain* is a great teacher,
and he'll soon show me all the ropes of being a First Officer. So, as
you each give me time to adjust and learn how to do what he used to
do, I really look forward to working with each and every one of you.
Thanks again, Everyone. And thank you, Captain Niples! " Several
crewmembers cheer even louder, as the huge hamster again bows towards
Niples, and then returns the microphone to him and then clapping and
cheering along with the crowd to our new Blue Dwarf Captain, Seymour
Niples!

OOC (Out Of Character) - Thanks everybody! What can I say? I'm
surprised and flattered. <insert red faced sheepish grin here>
Now, If you'll all pardon me, I'll be quickly making my way
to the nearest fallout bunker to duck and cover before Major Harris
knocks the stuffing out of me for this!
(I can just see it - a JMC news bulletin comes on "This has just in,
the infamous Major 'Nutter' Harris, takes orders from a hamster..."
ROTFL!!! [That's - Rolling On The Floor Laughing, for the newbies out
there.])
