Showdown?

The three of them heard the bike approaching and watched as the small display of Cass’s tablet tried to resolve the high speed of the bikes and scan the targets. It wasn’t until they had barricaded the door and set in with the sharpened sticks that Jamie had in reserve in the house that the little tablet picked up three human life signs. Jade peeked out of the Window.

“Who’s there? We’re armed!” She said, ducking back down to avoid any retaliation. Whoever these guys were, they’d found a way to circumvent the electromagnetic field in the same way as Artie and Kenneth had. How else did you explain the bikes?

“Jade?” Cass’s voice floated in through the barricades and the three inside collapsed with sighs of relief. They moved the hastily constructed barricades and exited the building.

It wasn’t long before everyone was caught up and the tablet was safely back in Cass’s hands. Some of the tension visibly left her body as she held the device, Jade noticed that it seemed to put her at ease a little to have it close by. Eve and Jaxx were caught up with each other, paying little attention to the discussion progressing on the porch.

“But we can’t take the bikes, there are too many of us now.” Cass pointed out, waving an arm at the gathering.

“We’ll never travel that distance and not be killed.” Jade said, looking out at the jungle, there were over 150km of Jungle between them and where Cass had determined Plisken was. They were well outside the flux zone here. Jade looked over to Eve and frowned slightly, she excused herself and walked over tapping Eve on the shoulder. “Eve, I know you want to make sure Jaxx is ok, but you guys should come here this too.” Jade said, smiling. Returning to the group, she could hear Fraxx* muttering

“Sorry Eve babe. I distracted you.” And looking rather sheepish.

“We can’t walk it. We can’t.” Cass was getting agitated again.

“Well we can’t all ride on the bikes either. And I'm not letting us split up again.” Jay said, looking sadly at the new toys he would have to abandon. Fraxx frowned, and he looked up nervously, hesitantly interrupting the discussion.

“Like. Ms Jones. Mr Chrysler… I… I have an idea…” Both of them turned to look at him with incredulity on their faces. A sharp look from Jade cut off their protests before they spoke. “Maybe… Maybe we could like. Make a sled. And pull it with the bikes?” He said, hoping that he hadn’t made them angry.

“That’s actually not a bad idea…” Jamie said, thinking and looking back to the house. “I can rig up the bath tub so the passengers are protected.” He said, already moving towards the house.

“And Cass and eve can ride pillion again.” Jay added, perhaps a bit too quickly.

“Great. Lets get to it.” Cass said, sitting down and tapping on the pad furiously.
