A Long Walk

"Nothing. It just powers down the drive when we try to spin it up." Eve said, though that much was obvious from the way the ring started to move, then stopped.

A couple more hours passed.

"Pass me the meter." Jamie said, his head and shoulders were inside a control panel, and a hand dangled outside it. Eve gave him the meter, and it vanished into the panel.

"Ahha." his voice echoed a bit within the chamber inside the control panel.

Soon, he emerged.

"Jaxx. can you run this up to Cass and Jay - they'll understand it." Jamie asked, handing him the meter that he'd just used.

"Uh, Ok dude." Jaxx said, and turned to leave.

"Actually, go with him if you want, There's not much more we can do here for now." Jamie said to Eve. "I'm going to get some rest, it'll take a couple of hours for them to do whats on there, and it'll take a while to get up to wherever they are anyway."

Jaxx was quickly joined by Evelina as they headed out to the Drive Room to find Cass and Jay. It was a long walk for them since the lifts were not working at this point. Jaxx was in good spirits since he was enjoying the feeling of his MACO body again. Eve was just happy to have Jaxx back in his muscular GELF body. Eve smiled as a few dirty thoughts filled her mind as she was checking out Jaxx's muscular physique. Jaxx seemed to be off in his own world when Eve broke the silence and asked, "So how are you feeling after that work out?" Jaxx replied, "Huh? Oh sorry Eve babe I was totally in my happy place for a sec, but like I am totally digging my old stupendous body again. I totally almost forgot like how sweet if feels to breath and feel again." Eve replied, "Good. I was getting a bit worried about you being stuck as a skutter for so long. I don't know how Artemis and Plisken can do it without problems." Jaxx replied, "Well at first its weird since you totally have to get used to doin stuff different and all. But then like after a while and stuff you have less issues, but you totally loose touch with your feelings and stuff. When I was totally locked in the room and all by Jay dude I got confused and stuff." Eve asked, "How so?" Jaxx replied, "Well when I was like having trouble memberin stuff I was totally scared, but as the motion of time prevailed I totally began to feel less and less feelings and stuff."

Evelina looked at Jaxx with concern and asked, "So then what?" Jaxx smiled as he looked at Evelina and replied, "Well chaaa. I totally did the only thing I could do and all. I focused on you Eve babe. I totally watched all your most fav shows non-stop as I totally imagine you next to me for movie night." Evelina was in shock as she asked, "Did that really help you?" Jaxx smiled and replied, "Well chaa. It totally kept my noggin from spilling out and loosing myself in the void of machinedom." Evelina blushed nervously as she was flattered by Jaxx's reply. Then Evelina hugged into Jaxx's arm as they continued to walk. Jaxx then replied, "I'm sorry Eve babe I made you mad and stuff and I will totally do my best to get better and all." Evelina replied, "I know you will Jaxx. I have faith in you." Jaxx smiled as he replied, "You'er so sweet Eve babe." Evelina replied, "Besides if you don't I'm gonna punish you." Jaxx sighed as he replied, "Wow your even cute when your mean and stuff Eve babe."

Evelina giggled and then replied, "And your even more cute when your scared of me." Jaxx nervously rubbed the back of his head and replied, "Awww Eve babe ya got me." Evelina giggled and replied, "Yes I do and don't even think about leaving me.......(Eve uses a sweet voice)...cause I'll find you." Jaxx nervously chuckled as he replied, "You totally scare me when you like talk that and stuff Eve babe." Evelina giggled as she replied, "Good cause now that I got you back your going to behave yourself right?" Jaxx replied, "Ummm like yeah Eve babe. I like don't know how I'm gonna find a most righteous way and stuff, but I will not kill unless I gotta or you and Jay dude say so." Evelina hugged Jaxx's arm more after hearing his words.

Then Evelina talked about things she wanted to do on their honeymoon while Jaxx just listened. Eventually they arrived at the Drive room to hear Jay and Cass were talking.

“Aw, shit. Cass...” Jay took a step towards her. This wasn't what he had expected or even wanted.
“It was the same with the Malodorians” she was crying now “It was just expediency – We needed that ship, we had nothing to bargain with and our backs were up against the wall”
She abruptly turned in her chair to spin it around, away from Jay, and thumped her her elbows down onto the desk before burying her face in her hands.
She didn't want to say anything else.
Even after having confessed all for the first time in either her or Brittany's whole life, she had still held back - How could she tell him that that her fear of loosing him had been the real reason she had been about to kill the Malodorians? - He didn't want to hear that from her!
For a moment, the soft sounds of her misery were all that could be heard in the room.

After hearing a few snips of the conversation Evelina made Jaxx go back with her down the hall and stated a loud conversation so Cass and Jay could hear them coming and pause their conversation. Evelina said, "HEY JAXX! Hurry up slowpoke! Jamie wanted us to get this to Cass and Jay today!" Jaxx was confused but went along with Evelina as he replied, "Sorry Eve babe!" Then Jaxx and Evelina walked to the drive room where Jaxx placed the meter on the nearby counter as Evelina conveyed Jamie's message. Then Evelina said, "Well we will be going now since Jaxx needs to fill up on some vegetables." Evelina hoped that Jay and Cass would buy her excuse for leaving so quickly as she pulled Jaxx out of the room and pushed him out the door. As Jaxx and Evelina were far enough away Evelina said, "That was a close one." Jaxx looked at Evelina confused and replied, "What was Eve babe?" Eve replied, "We almost walked in on a private conversation. That would be rude and hurtful." Jaxx was surprised as he replied, "Oh my bad Eve babe." Evelina replied, "I thinks its ok Jaxx. I just hope they bought my excuse since they are both pretty smart." Jaxx then replied, "Chhaa! But I totally can't let you be a most wicked liar Eve babe." Evelina looked at Jaxx with concern as she replied, "Meaning?" Jaxx smiled as he replied, "So now you totally have to get me some grub to totally stay honest to Ms Jones and Jay dude." Evelina smirked as she replied, "Oh alright lets go get a bite to eat you big lug." Then Evelina and Jaxx headed to the Refractory.
