Feral

“How long do we wait?” Jamie asked, having settled himself into a corner on a cabinet next to the chairs.

“As long as we ha…” Jay began, as he boarded the Starbug causing everyone to jump slightly and pausing as Cass emerged from the bathroom in an oversized JMC issue jump suit that hung off one shoulder, her hair wet glistening, droplets of water beading down her chest… He swallowed and turned away.

“Nice robe.” Cass smirked as Jay turned his back on the group in the bug.

“What?” He said, craning over his shoulder to see what all the laughing was for. “Ah smeg!” He scowled and rushed into the cockpit shutting the door, the edges of his backless gown flapping in his wake.

Jamie's head twitched to one side, and he licked his lips. He'd settled on his haunches on the cabinet. The loin cloth, feral look in his face and twitch made him look like he could play Tarzan without any practice. A sharp breath that came out as more like a growl made everyone step away.

---flashback---

Inside his mind, he was fighting a battle of his own. Swinging through the trees of the Fernando's jungle trying to escape a giant monstrosity that just smashed through the trees behind him.

That was when he had woken up on the medical table in the facility, staring up at the unfamiliar ceiling. He'd seen enough alien creatures in the jungle that the three-eyed, three legged beings didn't faze him at all, but the fact that he was strapped down was against his will to move. The psychically induced dream kicking his adrenal glands into overdrive.

"You strong. Your code strong." Said one of the aliens, as if stating a fact. Jamie struggled against the bindings on his arms, stretching the material, but not enough to break it. His biceps bulged, and he thrashed against it.

"What do you want?" he asked angrily, noting the aliens carrying a tube of white fluid away from him, and some machinery attached to his groinal area.

"You have strong life code. We extract and make strong life. Your half, with other half make new life. New ancients."

The aliens walked away, to the other side of the room. Jamie quietened down, slowing his breathing and getting his feelings under control. He could hear them talking, but couldn't understand what they were saying. It was in clicks and screeches.

By this point, it was obvious that he couldn't escape by strength. The beast chasing him in his mind was still there, still strong. He had to get away. Hide, maybe?

Silence. Stillness. Hidden. It was his only way. The monster couldn't get him if it couldn't see him, couldn't hear him.

A deep breath. One of many Ssala techniques he had learned in the ten long years in their jungles. He closed his eyes, and his breathing slowed further.

More clicking and screeching around him, as the aliens returned to him. They obviously weren't used to human physiology as much as they could be for their plans, as they couldn't tell he was still alive.

They released the restraints, the machinery... Big mistake. All the adrenaline still in his system kicked back in, blowing away all the calm that he had fought for. He kicked and clawed at them both, before scaling the wall, and entering a ventilation system. He growled in satisfaction at his escape, and the sound reverberated through the metal tunnel...

----end of flashback---

The engine roar reverberated through the wall of the starbug that he was leaning against. A familiar roar, a friendly roar. Something in the back of his mind said 'the stabiliser needs recalibrating...' and he closed his eyes again.

What felt like seconds later, he was woken up by a hand shaking him gently.

"Whu?" He said, his voice a little deeper than usual, and hoarse. He looked around, a confused look on his face. The access ramp at the back of the starbug was open, and the familiar sounds of the Blue Dwarf drew him to his feet.. and hands...

"Umm... are you ok?" Jade said, hoping to have been able to clean the wounds on his arms to prevent infection. Jamie took a deep breath, and looked down at himself. Then, he stood to almost full height, no longer supporting himself with his hands, like a gorilla, but still leaning over.

"I'm... fine..." He said, slowly. "just need time."

"You need to come to the medi-bay; I need to clean your arm." Jade replied. Jamie was still wearing nothing but the loin-cloth at this point, but he consented, and walked with the doctor, though it was more of a lope than a walk.

Jade was naturally walking a bit further away from him than she normally would, as Jamie looked on edge, ready to pounce at anything unexpected. Cass was in the medi-bay already, dealing with her nose-bleed when the door opened in front of Jamie.

He glanced at her, then a harder look as he walked in. A feral, predator like growl in the back of his throat, that sounded something mixed between a roar and a purr.

<tag. I'd like to see how Cass responds to that...>
