Dances With Gibbles

<SNIP>
The little creature looked at Evelina and then at the approaching noise as it tried to make sense of what was happening. Then the little fuzzy creature began blinking its third eye which was on a tentacle protruding from the top of it head. Evelina was confused by the little creature as she was both scared and confused. Then from out of nowhere Evelina was quickly pulled back several feet then smothered all over by several of the small little fuzzy creatures. Evelina was scared but couldn't move or make a sound in her position. Then the approaching noise emerged from the shadows to look where she was standing before. The large shadow like creature inspected the area and saw the trap was empty. After looking around the area it growled. Evelina could have sworn it looked right at her and the fuzzy creatures but didn't do anything. Out of disgust the tentacled shadowed monster went back the way it came.
Evelina was sweating bullets as the monster left. After the danger was passed Evelina fainted from exhaustion. Once it was gone the little fuzzy creatures picked Eve up and carried her off deeper into the woods.

Several hours later, Evelina woke up in a soft warm bed made of feathers. As she opened her eyes she could barely see around her environment till her eyes adjusted to the dim light originating from some glowing mushrooms and crystals. After gaining her senses Eve realized she was in a cave and on what appeared to be two wicker made children’s size beds lined up long ways to allow her legs to not hang over the edge. The covers seemed to be made of a fuzzy group of feathers that were sewn together tightly in a scale mail pattern. Evelina tried to stand up but bumped her head on the ceiling and quickly grasped her head in pain. The noise quickly alerted the small fuzzy creatures aka Gibbles outside her to check on her. Evelina was a bit startled by the Gibbles till she saw they were bringing her food. Seeing it was difficult to stand Evelina sat back on the bed as the Gibbles offered her their native food. Evelina looked at the wooden plates and saw some nuts, some berries and some dead insects. The Gibbles offered her the plates and said, “Chibulba! Nok ten se me bulba!” Evelina had no idea what they were saying and out of instinct accepted the food and began to eat it.

At this point Evelina was grateful of her GELF stomach since it could handle most foods even if they were toxic and foul tasting. In the past her owners would feed her the rotten food to save money on her up keeping. As Evelina ate the food the Gibbles began to warm up to her and began trying to communicate with her. She was surprised the bugs tasted better than the berries. After Evelina ate her less than desirable meal and the Gibbles were unable to communicate with her properly they escorted her down the cave to another room. At first it was not easy to walk down a tunnel bent over, but once they were in the main cave area she saw there was plenty of room to move freely. As Evelina followed her hosts she could clearly see all the Gibbles in the tribe going about their daily lives. Some Gibbles were making wicker products while others were grooming their children. Once Evelina arrived at the tunnel she was being led to, a Gibble pointed to a wall with poorly drawn artwork on it. Granted Evelina was no archeologist by any standard but after watching hundreds of movies like Indian Jones, Alan Quartermain and other movies about treasure hunters she was able to follow the crude story of the Gibbles.

Since the pictures were drawn form a Gibble’s perspective they were not always clear, however as Eve remembered the note she found in the bottle the story began to make sense. The Gibbles apparently have been living in fear from the city for a long time since the odd looking residence of the city would sacrifice any creature they found to the monster with long arms in what appeared to be a pyramid. Then a metal bird or perhaps a ship landed and tall creatures, which looked like humans, came to the city. Then the humans were sacrificed to the monster as well. Then the metal bird tried to fly away and turned into a sun, which was most likely, the ship exploding. The poor drawings did make it hard to get any details of the monster in the pyramid or the servants of the monster. Eve realized she had a problem so she gathered some commonly used items the Gibbles were using and like she had seen on here explorer movies had the Gibbles identify each item in their language. Evelina used the white chalk rocks to write down her translations to keep track of. It took half an hour just to get the translation for a stick, but as each item was introduced it became progressively easier. After a while Evelina began to see a pattern in the language, but she was a long ways from having a normal conversation in their language. Evelina hoped she could learn enough of the Gibble language to by daybreak so she could find the others.
