Keeping a Promise

“The first command node, if that’s what it is...” Artie frowned down at the readings “Hold that damn antenna still. The first node seems to be...” he lowered his scanner and pointed off, cross country “About three kilometres, that way!”
“Can you tell where the others are?” Cass asked, twisting to look at where he was pointing
“There’s only one other” Artie pointed away in a different direction “Eight kilometres over there!”
“Excellent!” Jay reined the horse in to come to a halt, and turned in his seat to regard everyone “Well done guys
“Now, I hate to get all Scooby Doo on you” he continued, to blank looks from the non-time travellers “but given that these things seem to be psychic, what do you reckon to splitting the team up and doing a coordinated attack to take both nodes out at once?”
“Yeah, that would make sense” Cass nodded “Otherwise the second one we move against will be much better defended, and I don’t know about you, but I’ve only got a few clips of ammo left”
“So...” Jay looked between their faces “What do you reckon?”

After breaking into two teams and splitting up Jay led Katrina, Jaxx, Evelina, Cass and Jade towards the second node. As they rode in the wagon towards the direction Artemis had given them, Jade and Cass were enjoying a nice conversation while Jay and Katrina were talking to each other as Jay steered the wagon. Now that there was more room on the wagon Evelina was nuzzling up to Jaxx as she asked, “Jaxx can I ask you something?” Jaxx replied in a monotone voice, “Of course Eve babe. Ask away.” Evelina asked, “How did you escape VR death?” Jaxx looked at Evelina with his sheep head claw face and replied in his monotone voice, “Well…..As I was totally dying in your arms and stuff I like felt my body totally transcend into light. Then I totally felt myself being pulled away by something in the machine. At first I was ok with that and all but then I totally remembered you crying and so I fought most profoundly against the heinous forces that were taking me away and stuff. As I fought to escape my most wicked fate I saw a node with lights and took it to totally escape the heinous force trying to take me away. Then as I looked around I totally found myself in a harsh dilemma since I couldn’t go back the way I came. So after much debate and deliberation I totally decided to follow the node. I was like doing ok for a while but then the power totally began to go on and off a lot so I had to hurry most defiantly. Then as I was making good time I totally saw the most radical wave of energy flowing most harshly from behind like a wave of blue water about to pound on the surf. I then totally used everything I had to out run the wicked surge of power and ran into to some bright lights before I felt the wicked surge of power crash behind me. When I like woke up I felt totally weird and stuff. After I got my mind right and looked around I totally blown away.

Evelina asked, “Because your were trapped in a skutter body?” “Jaxx replied, “Nawww Eve babe. I mean cause I was like in a broken skutter body and it was blown away from the burnt computer on the wall. After that I had to work my way back to find you guys and that was a whole other adventure right there.” Evelina shed a tear of happiness as she hugged Jaxx and muttered, “Thank you for keeping your promise Jaxx. I was scarred I would never see you again.” Jaxx replied, “My bad Eve babe I will try do better next time.” Jay interrupted as she said, “It looks like we are here. Everyone check your gear and weapons and Jaxx get in contact with Plisken to let him know we are in position.”

"Well, we have to find that node. We'll just have to be more careful" Plisken whispered. "Artemis, see if you can further refine that signal. Alex, Jamie, give him a hand, I'm going to update Jay." Plisken dialed in the communicator. "Plisken dude, what's up?" Jaxx's gritty mechanic voice caused feedback on the communicator. The others grabbed their ears and protested. "Jaxx....put Jay on" Plisken groaned, rubbing his ears. "Plisken, what's up?" Asked Jay. "We've located the first node in a mansion, we're going to close in and try to...." There was a loud bang. Flashlights swept over the room trying to search for the source.
