Ignorance is marital bliss
McKenzie's . . .
"I'm sorry I was looking for something a bit more all round, I know
i'm a picky customer, but you obviously can't help me..." Tara turned
and started to leave, Zack looked suitably nervous he always made a
sale no-one left the shop without buying something
"Hang on" Zack said spinning Tara around to face the screen
again "How about..."
"Uhhh . . ." Zack was really floundering. He doubted that Cash-
Holly himself was for sale. He knew almost nothing about AIs, except
of course for his experiences with Cubie.
CUBIE! Zack reached into his pocket, ignoring Tara's cocked
eyebrow, and activated Cubie. She appeared in a flight suit with an
aviator helmet on. Blushing, she tapped the helmet and it
disappeared. "Sorry. I was trying out a simulator . . ."
She looked at Zack. "What's up?"
"Hi sweetie! I was hoping you could help me with an interactive
computer demonstration."
She sighed. "Ah. No air hockey, then?"
Zack flushed. "Well, not right NOW! I'm working. Now Miss
Tara needs-"
Cubie shoved Zack out of the way and smiled at Tara. "So . . .
what can I do for you?"
<Reply - Tara>
Cubie frowned, then suddenly snapped her fingers. "I know!"
She took Tara's hand. "Now hold on - this could get a little
bumpy." Suddenly the floor opened up underneath them and they fell
out of sight. Seconds later, another hole opened in the ceiling, and
Cubie and Tara fell to the deck in a heap. Cubie helped Tara up.
"Let me know if you have any problems with that program, and
we'll return it."
Tara smiled weakly as she stared at a data disk that she'd
acquired during a slightly unauthorized visit to STCP headquarters.
On it was a program that would probably do just about everything she
needed done - providing it could work with the archaic computers of
the Dwarf. "Uh, thanks."
Zack pulled Cubie aside. "You took her to STCP headquarters?"
Cubie nodded. Yes."
"And gave her an AI disk?"
Another nod. "Yes."
Zack imagined getting his termination notice with his very first
paycheck. "For free?"
Cubie was indignant. "Of course for free. We found a very nice
medical/accounting program that wasn't happy with her lot in STCP.
It's a match made in heaven."
"Well, I was trying to sell her something from the ship's
selection. That way Mr. McKenzie just might decide to pay me."
"Well you should have mentioned that!"
They turned and smiled at Tara.
