The Red Button

An exhausted Jaxx felt the change in the current and quickly realized what was about to happen. So he forced his tired body to move quickly as the wave was approaching. Jaxx was too tired and slow as the wave kept him from reaching the others in time. As he tumbled under water he helplessly saw the currents separate the crew-members. He quickly scanned the area and found Evelina pinned against a wall underwater. Jaxx quickly swam and grabbed Evelina and pulled her up out of the water. Evelina was choking on the water in her helmet as Jaxx help her up as the current pulled them down a dark tunnel.

Jaxx and Evelina floated down the dark tunnel for a good while till they saw a light at the end of the tunnel. As they were getting to the end of the tunnel Evelina could clearly see a large drop off as she yelled, “Waterfall!” Before Jaxx could react the two GELFs flew out the tunnel for a twenty-foot drop. Jaxx quickly saw the shallow water and turned himself under Evelina as they landed in a five-foot pool. Jaxx made an “Oooooffffffffff” sound as his back slammed into the bottom of the pool and Evelina landed on his chest.and crotch. Evelina quickly rose to catch her breath and look around as Jaxx rested underwater.

Evelina used her headset as she said, “Uhhhhh Jaxx we have company.” Jaxx slowly stood up and prepared for a fight. As Jaxx rose out of the water he saw two-dozen rodents looking right at them, as they were shocked to see intruders. Jaxx and Evelina stood motionless as the rodents were sizing them up. One rodent said, “Uhhhhh Fred? Please tell me those are not MACOs in front of us.” Fred replied, “Oh Smeg! They can’t be Sal. I know I wiped them out with Cadmium radiation.” Sal replied, “Then why are their two of them in front of us?”

Jaxx and Evelina looked at each other as Evelina used her headset and said, “Jaxx these guys just admitted to sabotaging the Blue Dwarf and killing your people.” Jaxx replied in his headset, “That is so not cool Eve babe. So like should I hurt them and stuff?” Evelina, “Looked at the rodents and then at Jaxx as she said, “It looks like its them or us so go nuts sweety.” Jaxx smiled at Evelina and used his headset to say, “You’re the best Eve babe. Follow my lead on this one.”

Jaxx opened his visor and popped his fins back into his armor as he yelled at the top of his lungs, “FEEDING FRENZY!!!” Evelina screamed, “FEEDING FRENZY!!!” The rodents scrambled in fear for their weapons. Jaxx pulled out his chains and began whipping the rodents as they scrambled for their gear. Evelina began using her assult rifle to shoot at the scrambling rodents Eventually the rodents left their gear and ran out of the room and down the hall till they vanished.

After the rodents vanished Jaxx began laughing non-stop. Evelina asked, “Jaxx what was all that Feeding Frenzy about?” Jaxx caught his breath and replied, “Wooooooo. Well I like totally saw it on the security videos of when I attacked some wicked GELFs long ago. It totally scared the crap out of them then so I figured it like would work on these guys too.” Evelina shook her head as she said, “Jaxx so you were just scarring them then? You weren’t really going to eat them right?” Jaxx made a Yuk face as he said, “Naaah Eve babe, I only eat vegetables remember?” Evelina nodded and replied, “So what now?”

A voice from behind said, “Now you charlatans will die for making a fool of us.” Jaxx looked behind to see the rodent named Fred appearing from thin air (a cloaking device) and wearing a large backpack attached to a large shoulder mounted laser cannon that was pointed at Jaxx and Evelina. Jaxx just watched Fred as he used his wrist communicator to say, “Big Fuzzy to Security team Alpha. Its all clear boys, I got them pinned down. Grab some gear and make your way back here.” Jaxx continued to remain motionless as he stared down the arrogant Fred. Fred chuckled as he said, “You may have escaped my trap but in the end your just as dead MACO scum.”

Evelina open her visor and asked asked, “Why do you want the MACOs dead so badly?” Fred looked at Evelina and smirked as he replied, “Your no MACO. They never made females to keep them from over breeding. As for why, the MACOs are a menace to all life. They live only to destroy and feast on their enemies. The one time we ignored them they destroyed five of our colonies before we could stop them.” Evelina asked, “How were you able to stop the MACOs?’ Fred got angry as he replied, “We had to destroy the planet they were on along with an entire colony of Roo. As long as one MACO lives they are threat to our whole existences.”

Evelina then saw the rodents returning from the hall with laser assault cannons as well. Fred looked at Jaxx curiously as said, “Your awful quiet MACO. Your female seems to talk for you huh? Any last words before I send you to oblivion?” Jaxx just stared at Fred before he smiled and said, “Yeah dude. Sick em boy!” Fred cocked his head to the side as he tried to make out the meaning behind Jaxx’s words as he said, “Sick em boy?”, when suddenly Fred felt a bone crunching pain in his left leg. Zod had snuck up on Fred and bit his leg in half. As Fred fell in pain he tried to shoot Jaxx and Evelina but missed as his pulsar blast barreled down the hallway and destroyed the other Roo guards. Jaxx and Evelina could feel the heat from the blast as they fell backwards into the water.

Zod ripped off Fred’s leg and spit it out so he could bite down and break Fred’s left arm. Jaxx and Evelina regained their balance and stood out of the water before running to Zod and Fred. Jaxx laughed as he said, “Good boy Zod come to daddy.” Zod let go of Fred’s broken arm and began playing with Jaxx in the water. Evelina shook her head at Jaxx and Zod as she said, “They are like two overgrown kids.” The Evelina put her rifle to Fred’s head and said, “So what do we do with you?” The bloody Fred squeaked and muttered, “You’ll never escape. I’ll hunt you down till the end of time if I have to.”

Evelina sighed as she said, “Why can’t you guys just watch more tv?” Fred scoffed as he winced in pain. Evelina yelled, “Hey Jaxx come here.” Jaxx and Zod stopped playing and sloshed back to Evelina as Jaxx said, “What’s up Eve babe?” Evelina pulled out her bomb and said, “Jaxx from what I can tell we are at the security section. If we can destroy their computer they won’t be able to network together.” Jaxx looked at Eve with a puzzled face as he said, “So how do we do that?” Evelina replied, “I think we should use this bomb on it?” Jaxx smiled as he said, “Sweet Eve babe……Oh wait that’s totally not gonna work and stuff.” Evelina asked, “And why not Jaxx?” Jaxx replied, “Cause Eve babe, remember what Fuzzy dude said? We can’t touch their do-dads and stuff.” Jaxx tried to touch the cannon on Fred’s shoulder but his hand went right through it. Evelina made a fist as she said, “Your so right Jaxx I forgot about that. So how do we destroy this place if we can’t touch it?”

Jaxx looked around and rubbed his chin before smiling as he walked over to Fred’s severed leg. Jaxx picked up the leg and then used it to touch the backpack on Fred. Evelina made a Yuk face as she said, “Ewww Jaxx that is so gross. What are you doing?” Jaxx smiled as he said, “They can totally touch their own gadgets and stuff Eve babe. Evelina realized what Jaxx meant as she said, “Ohhh I see now but that is still gross Jaxx.” Fred tried to punch Jaxx’s leg, but Zod snapped his other arm with a nasty bite.

Evelina thought for a second as she said, “You know Jaxx instead of the bomb lets use this big gun to shoot the computer.” Jaxx smiled brightly as he said, “Your so awesome Eve babe. Just tell me where to point him.” Evelina used the severed leg to find the access panels to the computer and open them. She smiled as they lit up before her as she said, “Jaxx bring him here and point his gun right at this point. After Jaxx dragged Fred over he propped him up to aim the cannon at the computer and asked, “So what now Eve babe?”

Evelina looked the cannon over as she said, “Now we need to fire it at the computer.” Jaxx tried to think as he looked the cannon over before asking Fred, “How do you shoot this thing?” Fred smirked as he said, “Like I would tell you to push the red button?” Jaxx looked at the cannon and saw a red button and tried to push it but his hand went through. Jaxx said, “Oh yeah I totally forgot.” Then Jaxx used Fred’s broken arm to push the red button as he said, “Ha ha I did it.” Fred smirked again as he said, “You smeg head now you will both join me in oblivion.” The cannon began humming softly and slowly it began to get louder as Fred was laughing. Evelina realized what was going to happen as she said, “Jaxx we need to run before he explodes!”

Jaxx freaked as he picked up Evelina over his shoulder and yelled, “Lets go boy!” before running down the hall of dead rodents. Jaxx ran full tilt as he heard the faint laughter of Fred behind him. Jaxx barely made the turn down the hallway before the cannon exploded. The security mainframe was quickly decimated and flames flowed down the hallway after Jaxx, Evelina and Zod. Jaxx and Zod were running full tilt down the maze of hallways in hopes to out run the fire. After Jaxx and Zod bolted past an office full security personnel, one of the rodents looked out the door to see three intruders running away. As the rodent turn her head in the other direction she saw a huge flame fly right at her before she could scream. The flame melted the entire room before they could shut the door. All that was left were statues made of black ash that slowly crumbled.

Jaxx was still carrying Evelina over his shoulder as he and Zod were running full tilt down the hallway with the fire not far behind. Evelina used her headset to say, “Jaxx I don’t want to be a nag but ITS GETTING CLOSER!” just then Jaxx, Evelina and Zod ran out of floor and fell five feet into a swimming pool. Jaxx quickly pulled both of them closer to the bottom as the flame engulfed all the Roo who were enjoying a nice dip in the pool. The flame lasted a good while, which made Evelina struggle for air as she hit Jaxx repeatedly. Jaxx quickly opened her visor and pressed his mouth against hers and shared his air with her as the fire began to evaporate the water from the pool. Evelina calmed down as she felt oxygen enter her lungs again and slowly hugged Jaxx as they saw their sky was on fire. Zod had no problem holding his breath under water as he watched the fire in the sky.

After a while Zod nudged Jaxx and Evelina who now had their eyes closed and were still sharing air and hugging. Jaxx and Evelina opened their eyes to see the twenty-foot deep pool only had four feet of water left. As they stood up in the steamy water and looked at each other, Evelina smiled and said, “Thanks Jaxx that was close.” Jaxx smiled as he said, “Anytime Eve babe. So like how did you know his big gun was like gonna blow up and stuff?" Evelina smiled as she answered, "It is a standard self destruct button. All the bad guys have one in the tv shows I watch." Jaxx laughed as he said, "You learned a lot of stuff from your tv shows huh?" Evelina replied, " Yeah but how do we get out of here?”
