“Kat? What’s wrong?” Cass asked
“nu…nothing…” Katrina replied
Another clap of thunder. Katrina dashed across the clearing and stood behind Jaxx, quivering.
“Kat?”
“Alright!” she snapped “I’m scared of thunder OK?!”
“Really?” Cass said softly “You? A big tough ex-space corp engineer, ex-STCP enforcer scared of thunder?”
“Theres no weather in space!” snapped Chrysler. “It’s the perfect place to work! Anyway, it’s not like nobody else has irrational fears! Even Jay does, he’s scared of rabbits!”
“….” Was pretty much all anyone could say to that.
“The storms getting worse!” Artemis said “This is wonderful!”
“Can we get movin’?” Alex said “It’s gettin’ wet…”
“This is just the start of it!” Artemis said “The weather will get more severe and more bizarre the closer we get to the outpost entrance. How wonderfully clever.”
“Well then lets move!” Plisken said striding forward to lead the group.
Another clap of thunder made Katrina wince again.
“Jay’s scared of rabbits?” Cass asked…

Jaxx looked at Katrina oddly and smiled as he said, “Its cool Mrs. C. Even I have sumthin heinous to fear.” The scared Katrina looked up at Jaxx and asked, “And what is that?” Jaxx looked sadly at Evelina and said, “Loosing Eve babe. When we were totally trapped in that wicked space station by that heinous Queeg dude, he totally made her cry and scared. (sigh) I felt totally ashamed I wasn’t strong enough to protected her and stuff. It was like then that totally promised her I would endure anything and stuff to keep her from ever shedding any more tears. Truth is Mrs. C I am a most heinous monster and I totally don’t deserve Eve babe. Because of her I was totally able to lock away the wicked monster inside me. She gives my heart peace and stuff.”

Katrina looked at Jaxx and realized loosing Jay was far worse than the lightning, but she still felt better standing behind the big blue shark-man. Jaxx saw that Katrina was still nervous about the lightning so he said to Evelina, “Hey Eve babe it might like be safer if you and Mrs. C totally use me for a shield in case we get attacked or have to swim, since you got guns and all.” Evelina saw the scared Katrina and nodded as she got behind Katrina and said, “Good Idea Jaxx and don’t worry Katrina, Jaxx is used to a good beating.” Jaxx muttered, “Awwww Eve babe. Why ya gotta be like that?” Evelina and Katrina giggled as Jaxx took the abuse.

The crew continued their path for quite some distance as the weather began to get worse. Plisken became concerned about the crew sticking together so he reached into his pack and pulled out a rope. Plisken had everyone gather as he said, “Hey listen up! Form a line and tie the rope to your waist so we don’t loose anyone. Since we are going to split up later White Wolf’s team will be in the front and the rest of us in team two will be after so we can cut their rope and split up faster.” Everyone nodded as they tied themselves off. The team continued their journey through the terrible terrain and frightening weather. White Wolf and Jaxx often found themselves pulling up several members up hill who had trouble keeping up.

Eventually the water began to rise as the area was flooding rapidly. White Wolf led the group to some broken trees nearby. White Wolf yelled, “Jaxx untie yourself and help me get these broken trees in the water.” Jaxx shrugged and untied himself before walking over to the broken trees. Then the two picked up the large branchless tree trunks and placed them near the water and retrieved two more logs. Then White Wolf told the crew, “We are going to use these logs to float at far as we can. Everyone needs to hold on tight. Jaxx since your aquatic we need you to attach another rope to the trees so you can pull us in the right direction?”

After everyone agreed the crew rolled the logs into the three foot water as the rain poured down like nails. The crew struggled but managed to secure the rope around the trees and around Jaxx. Then Jaxx popped his fins out and began pulling the crew through the flooding area. Evelina used her headset to talk to Jaxx, “And you said they didn’t like you.” Jaxx laughed as he replied, ”This was totally not what I had in mind Eve babe.” Evelina replied, “If you like I could hit your back with a whip and say Mush Shark-Boy.” Jaxx gasped as he said, “Don’t be cruel Eve babe.” Evelina giggled as she said, “I’m sorry Jaxx this just reminds me of an old cartoon I used to watch.” Jaxx replied, “Hey Eve babe the current is getting a bit tough to swim through so…..” Evelina cut off Jaxx as she said, “I take it you want me to shut up?”

Jaxx nervously replied, “No no no Eve babe. It’s totally not like that. Can you keep talking? Your voice helps me stay calm.” Evelina blushed as she replied, “Awwwww that’s so sweet. So what did you want me to talk about?” Jaxx replied, “How about your favorite shows since its totally gonna be a long swim.” Evelina then began telling Jaxx about her favorite soap opera from the beginning as he swam the deadly currents of the rising water.
