Being Human

"Interesting idea WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?" Jacky yelled.

Everyone turned away to see what he was talking about. Jacky hurled his future self's gun off into the waters.

"Whoops, must have been my imagination! Sorry!"

everyone stopped looking at him and continued with business.

"Heh heh... smeg the future." Jacky snickered to himself.

Jaxx looked around and saw the crew looked lost and confused. The Jaxx turned to Jay and said, "We might wanna set up camp before it gets to late." Jay answered, "Your right we don't want to loose to much daylight. I hope your training included a survival program?" Jaxx responded, "Yes sir it did." Did you want me to work on a shelter or a fire?" Jay asked, "How did you plan on lighting the fire?" Jaxx answered, "Well when I was under water I found a sunken space craft. When I checked it out it had a good size air pocket in it so most of the supplies were dry including the flare guns I found. They do look kinda old but the powder might still ignite with a small spark." Jayy looked at the crate and back at Jaxx and said,
"I'll take a look at the supplies and get the fire going. You and Davie work on a shelter nearby." Jaxx said, "No problem. " Then Jaxx walked over to the crate and dug into it a little and pulled out a few rusty survival knives and hatchets. Then Jaxx kept one knife and one hatchet and gave Jay the rest. Jay said,"Thanks these might come in handy."

Jaxx walked over to Davie who was checking out the landscape. Jaxx spoke up, "Hey Davie Jay wants us to build a shelter." Davie turned around and said, "Yeah we don't waste our daylight. Jaxx handed Davie the knife and said, "Its a bit rusty but it should hold up." Davie looked at the knife and said, "Well its better than nothing. Jaxx and Davie walked off into the woods.

Davie asked,"Any ideas on what you want to use to build the shelter?" Jaxx answered, "Yep the Ambassador's escape pod landed up ahead. I figure we can gut it and roll it back to the trees by the beach and turn it into a small shelter for the women and then we can use nearby trees as posts for the men's shelter. We can use vines, sticks and thick brush to make a frame and a roof." Davie thought for a moment and said, "That could work."

Davie and Jaxx wasted no time gutting out the escape pod to lighten it. Then the two men pushed the pod back and forth till they could get it rolling. They rolled the pod all the way back to the trees by the beach and positioned it between some strong trees. Then Davie and Jaxx collected all the chairs and usable pod parts that were gutted out. After they used the pods parts to help set up a frame for the shelter Davie and Jaxx made several trips with several long branches and brush. As Jaxx and Davie were catching their breath Jay showed up with some hiking rope and said, "I found this in the crate. It should hold up." Davie and Jaxx said, "Thanks man." Jay returned to finish what he was working on as Davie and Jaxx set up the frame and secured it with the rope. Then the two men added the brush to make the roof and sides. After several hours the to tired men rested a bit as they admired their work.

Jay walked over to see the shelter with a tarp and said, "Good work men. I found this tarp we can use on the ground to keep from laying on the wet dirt and I saw the supplies Jaxx got us. We have a few worn out jumpsuits, shirts, pants and blankets. We also have a few rusty knives, rusty hatchets, rotten flare guns, old med kits, old smokes and a few boxes of mint conditioned Twinkies." Davie looked ay Jaxx and said, "Wow I thought they stopped making those a long time ago." Jay answered, "Even so they had a long shelf life." Jaxx looked at Jay and said, "We still have day light left we might wanna get some fish while we can." Jay said, "Yeah just be careful your a human now." Jaxx nodded as he headed off to the water by himself. Jay had Davie, Jacky and Molly help get more fire wood near the shelter.

Jaxx held his hatchet close as he waded into the water slowly and watched the ripples in the water. Jaxx patiently waited for a large enough fish to swim by as he stunned it with the back of the hatchet. Then Jaxx grabbed the fish and tossed it onto the bank. Jaxx spent the next hour clubbing fish and tossing them to the bank. Dave and Jay came by to gather Jaxx's fish and prep them for dinner. After Jaxx caught about 22 fish he came out of the water and headed to the fire Jay had set up. Jay had a nice size fire going and was using long sticks to hold the fish by the flames while the crew sat on a few logs around the fire. Jaxx smiled as he thought about his day and the idea of being human.
