Seymour's sea-legs

“It's quite beautiful, boss.” Snuffled Staines.
“Isn't it?” Growled Pugwash in his deep rumble.
“It's a shame we have to kill them.”
“Yes.”

Seymour was quite glad of the Aquanaut picking him up onto its back. Walking through the murky water was at a slow pace, even with his artificial legs. Sometimes he missed having a wheelchair, just because he could be pushed around without expending any effort. He didn't even feel lazy for thinking that, he thought it was his privilege for being disabled. Or upper class. Either one worked for his conscience.
They flew through the constructed city and Seymour wondered how long it'd taken to build all the way down here. The in the 3 million years they'd been in stasis were a little more productive than he'd originally realised.
They swam down a street that seemed to have several restaurants. Seymour licked his lips as he thought of what delicious and exotic concoctions that a race of fish people could create. He leaned to one side, grabbing his mount's dorsal fin for support and grabbed a menu as they swam past which described 18 different types of boring fish flakes. He turned his nose up and discarded the menu.
His temporary amazement of the city ended very quickly when huge swathes of it were destroyed in several explosions. Through the water they felt the vibration of the water and were almost knocked off their mounts. The fish darted around in confusion as explosions all around them destroyed the impressive skyscrapers, causing the large sections to crash slowly into the ground, and the smaller lighter parts to break off and float upwards.
The source of the explosions was Pugwash, who they could see as a dark shadow above them. He and his sidekick wore harnesses strapped to their body that contained cannons for dispensing depth-charges, JMC issue for underwater mining.
“Seymour, why don't you negotiate with him?” said Alex on a nearby fish.
“Preposterous! Talk to a maniac killing machine?!”
“Yeah, tell him that we're trying to stop the leak. It's his water too!”
Seymour thought about this for a while, then sighed as he realised it was actually a good point. “Damn your insufferable logic!” Seymour said and patted his fish on the side, steering it towards the shark.
“I say, I say!” Seymour shouted, hoping the voice vibrations projected through his spacesuit would be heard by Captain Pugwash.
“I say, would you mind awfully just stopping all this wanton destruction. We're trying to help you.”
Seymour said, coming into range of the giant fish. Then gulping hard as it turned to face him and grinned with giant teeth bigger than Seymour's largest carving knife (the expensive one he bought from Lakeland).
“I know.” The shark said simply. “I caused it.”
“But... by jove that doesn't make any sense! All the water will leak out... it will jolly well kill you too!”
“I've got a backup plan.” Said Pugwash, and lunged forward, knocking Seymour off his fish. He started to tumble through the water, and flapped his arms to move away from Pugwash, who was rapidly coming past for a second attack. The giant shark bit him on the legs, and got a shock when the electricity shorted. But it was too late for the legs, they were bitten in half and floated downwards.
“I'm legless!” Seymour yelled. “Again!”
His fish came to rescue him, and swam underneath. Seymour grabbed on with his entire body, not having the legs to grip any more. “Get me out of here!” Seymour yelled and the fish swam away from Pugwash towards the others, who had already found the leak and had started to seal it using the underwater welders.
It was Phil and Alex who concentrated their efforts on fixing the small hole which was allowing the water to leak out into space. Seymour flew up to them quickly and forgot to hold on when the fish stopped that he tumbled forward off the fish's back and nudged into Phil, causing him to cut a deep gash into the hull with the welder.
“Oh bugger.” Phil said, as the hull buckled under the weight of the water, and fell away. The hole was now more than twice the size, and getting larger as the weight of the water flowed towards it.
They all struggled to get free of the suction that was pulling them towards the hole. But everyone, including Captain Pugwash was being drawn towards the hole as the entire city of Atlantis was drained of water.
<tag – can anyone plug the leak somehow?>
