Rosette & Rufus - Space Corps Directive 34124.
<snip>
"That's easy." Rufus said, walking over to the side of the room and
opening a draw full of plastic ID cards. "Amber wouldn't let me get
rid of it. His codes still work, all in the ID tag like yours, just...
better." He said, handing over the laminated plastic ID tag of Jay
Chrysler. "Y... You can stay in my quarters, I don't think anyone
else shares them." He said, scribbling down a location and code. He
smiled at Rosette.

"Is there a way I can communicate with you from there without being
traced?" she asked, picking up one of the devices on a desk in the
lab, turning it over as she examined it without having a clue what it
was. The laminated ID tag in her hand was indeed still active, but it
was for their ex-Captain. Something in her head made her want to put
it down and use some other method, but there wasn't much choice at
this time.
"N.. Not easily." Rufus stammered, the boy genius' flaw relatively
obvious. He put down the circuit board and looked around. He limped
over to the stack of junk in a corner of the room and started to
rummage around. "Try this." He said, thrusting a large black box with
an antenna poking out of it to Rosette.
"What is it?" she said, looking at the archaic tech.
"A walkie-talkie. D... Dad bought some back once when he got drunk and
fell into the time fridge. They use old Radio Frequency technology,
not the digital stuff we do these days. U... Unless she's got a R...
Receiver we should be ok for a S... Short time. The batteries aren't
that good in them..."
"You've always got an answer, haven't you?" she asked with a smile.
Taking the walkie talkie in hand, she wrapped her arms around Rufus,
and held him there for what felt like an eternity.
"w-what was that for?" he said, now red as a strawberry.
"for being you." She said, grabbing one of the spare lab coats hooked
at the side of the room. "You don't mind if I steal this as a
disguise, do you?" she said, swapping it for her own jacket, which she
hid in the corner of the room.
"U... Urm, I don't have a choice do I?" He said, attempting to work to
hide his blushing.
"Not really." She said, with a grin. "I'll let you know when I get
there. Hopefully Amber's managed to find those orders already." She
said as she opened the front door. "thanks again."
---- Later ----
Rufus tapped away on the keyboard and using hacked security privileges
he watched as Rosette snuck her way through the corridors. She was
good, but not perfect, and Rufus made sure that the cameras that did
catch her were not showing that footage to the guards on duty.
It was probably too much to hope that the security teams were still
the same as the ones shed trained. Castillo had no doubt done things
to all departments to put them under her control, whether this meant
locking them all on deck 13, or just putting one of her people in
charge of them, it didnt matter.
Rufus, can you hear me? Rosette said into the walkie-talkie.
Theres too many cameras in this section, can you deactivate them
and the ones on the engineering deck for long enough to get through?
she asked, hoping the engineering deck would be considered the true
target.
Sure, j... Just let me access the database and Ill turn out the main
lighting and the camera on both decks. Youll have a wide range to
p... Play with but b... Be careful Rosette. He swivelled on the
chair he was sat at, moving to another keyboard and monitor in his
little hub at the back of his lab. What he forgot was that he had his
lab coat on the back of his chair, and as he twisted in the seat the
trailing arm caught the cup of coffee on the desk and spilled it over
the controls.
Hollys voice echoed across the ship wide speakers.
Gravity temporarily disabled. Please standby whilst I fix the issue dudes.
Back in the science deck, Rufus currently unaware of how he caused the
problem, got on the walkie-talkie back to Rosette.
I did it, b... But you might have a f... Few more issues now. As he
finished talking, he felt the room get lighter...
