Amber & Rosette - "Tom, Dick & Harry"
Who: Amber, Rosette
Where: Deck 13
When: Shortly after Rosette woke up.
Amber strolled down the deck, nodding to the Canaries that were still serving time at Her Majesties Pleasure. She stopped briefly and had a quick chat with a guard she knew asking where Rosette was being kept. She walked along to the cells where Rosette was and sidled up to the French lackey of Fifi Castillo's. Flirting a little bit with him to get his guard down. If it had been a prisoner, it wouldn't have worked, but the guard made a joke and Amber laughed, patting him on the chest, a simple gesture that made him flush pink and Amber grin as she walked away.
Walked away holding his security key-card.
"Rosette." Amber said, straight faced.
"Amber! Get me out of here, we have to stop Castillo." She moved up to the bars, wincing as her collar bone throbbed.
"I can't do that, she's Captain. I don't want the responsibility. She can do it, I can't. I couldn't have pulled the trigger. I couldn't murder all those people. The JMC is all I've ever known, how can I go against them?" She said, sighing. Her face was ashen, the moral dilemma obviously clear on her mind.
"That doesn't matter." Rosette said. "If we break Castillo and take over, we won't have to do anything like that. We'll never have to push a button aimed at innocent people. We'll be shooting at people like Castillo!" She said, up against the bars.
"How would you feel if Rufus was ordered to develop a deadly weapon, then Castillo ordered you to push the button?" She asked, knowing how she felt for letting Castillo launch the drills to begin with.
"Besides." Rosette said, very quietly. "If you don't want to lead everyone in a mutiny, I will." She said. She could see the truth in Amber's words. Â She really wasn't ready to lead everyone. The JMC had seen this, and knew she'd stand aside for any captain they sent, even one like Fifi Castillo.
"I don't know..." Amber said, still unsure how it would all work.
"Ok, If you just let me out of here, I'll stay hidden and sort it all out. If you're that worried, I won't even tell you what the plans are, so if Fifi questions you, you'll be safe. I just need to be out of here."
"Damnit Rosette, I don't give two smegs about that stupid cow who's in charge!" Amber said, in an angry whisper, the guard looking over briefly at the hushed discussion. "It's the JMC that worry me. How can you say that all 1000 plus people on this ship would be happy to side with you or me? I mean we've both had our dark pasts. Me more so than you, and if we turn on Castillo we are turning on the JMC too! That's a big company. What are we supposed to do? One lone mining ship against the entire Space Corps!" She said, smiling sweetly and coyly waving at the guard.
"What would you rather do?" Rosette asked. "Castillo could take us to any number of planets like New Buckinghamshire, and threaten hundreds of billions of humans all over the galaxy. Â Not to mention the possibility of ruining all of our alliances. Don't forget that the Boss of the JMC was a bug. Who's to say he hasn't brainwashed everyone he worked with?"
"Because everything to do with the bugs died when the Queen died."Amber said. "We saw them all stop in their tracks."
"Would you want to be part of the company that did the same as them? Castillo is going to destroy that planet. The bugs would have done the same. I don't want to be part of it, and I don't think you do either." Rosette said, hoping she'd said the right thing.
Amber paused, taking in what rosette had said.
"You're right. Who's to say that the JMC will stop here? There's something wrong at the heart of this company if they think they can get away with it. We are being no better than the Hymenopterra if we go along with this plan. This is why Rufus likes you, you talk sense." Amber didn't smile, but for the first time in ages, the burden on her shoulders was a little lighter. Becoming Captain wouldn't be such a bad thing if she had her friends around her.
It's what Jay would have wanted.
"It's what He'd do." Amber whispered, thinking of her late Godfather.
"get me a screwdriver and I can break myself out. You won't even need to do anything until I kick Fifi in the face." She said, trying not to let slip that she was happy Rufus liked her.
I'll need his help too. But I promise I won't get him into trouble." She said, "spread the word. I'm going to break into Fifi's office and get the orders she received. It might help get everyone on our side." She said, glancing over to the security guard, who was beginning to get fidgety. They both gave him a knowing smile to distract him from the passing of a screwdriver.
I'll contact you when I know more.
