OOC - Blue Dwarf in 2011

Hello everyone, I'm posing this just before 2011 starts as I'm going to a party
later.
I never imagined when I started Blue Dwarf in April 2000 that Blue Dwarf would
still be continuing over 10 years later.
You will have noticed lately that there aren't as many posts to Blue Dwarf as
there used to be. When it first started, Red Dwarf series 8 was fresh in our
minds, and I think most of us were at the age in our lives when we had a lot of
time to spare. As we are getting older now there's more things that get in the
way, we have more commitments, and less free time. This makes finding time to
write tricky, and our creative time when we're thinking up stories are filled
with boring real life worries like jobs, mortgages, relationships and all that
bollocks.
So its harder, but it's not impossible to find spare time to write.
About halfway through Blue Dwarf's 10 year lifespan I noticed that the posts
were becoming less frequent, but they were actually growing much better in
quality. More than I ever could hope for. So I was extremely happy with fewer
but much better written posts. No longer would someone sit down for a few
minutes and bash out a quick post, they'd sit for longer and create a
masterpiece.
But after a while of doing this I think we lost something. I think people
started taking the storyline on BD a bit too seriously, which added pressure,
making some people nervous about posting. Especially new members who saw our
quality of posting was so high, that they were nervous about joining in, fearing
they'd look like idiots in comparison.
It's not just new members, I think every one of us has felt that when we post,
we need to sit down and create a masterpiece. We're no longer sitting down and
bashing out a quick post. We feel that we owe it to ourselves, and to BD to
write something amazing.
But I want to change that in 2011. I don't like this pressure, and just want a
good story to be told, it doesn't have to be literary genius! Feel free to bash
out a quick post if you want to, and don't worry about it.
The author J.K Rowling has made a career out of writing only semi-proficiently,
yet the story has captivated millions. It's the story that's important, and I
want the BD story to continue being wacky and weird like it used to be. It's a
scifi, so don't ever think your idea is too stupid, in a scifi ANYTHING can
happen! We won't judge.
So to sum all this up. It doesn't matter if you write shitter but more often!
