Who: Micky, Vanessa
Where: The medi-bay
When: Not long after Micky came too
"What did I tell you? No people skills!" Vanessa was holding two
big handfuls of gauze covered in blood. Just seeing it all made him
want to pass out again.
"That's a bit harsh don't you think?" He was feeling round the back
of his head where there was a long rapidly healing scar. "I'll get
him for that. Hurts like a bitch!"
"Well, from the CCTV we saw, you threw the first punch. Just made
yourself look a bit stupid, what with passing right through him and
all that..." There was a tense pause, then both started sniggering.
"Look, Jayne, I wanna thank you for..." He stopped. Did he call her
Jayne?
"What did you just call me?"
He must have done. But he had no idea why.
"Errrm... I don't.... Know?" Vanessa could see he meant what he
was saying.
"Holly?" She said.
"Hello?" He replied and came into view.
"Bring me up the security photo of Jayne Chrysler." She turned to
Micky. "Does this ring any bells?"
Jaynes picture came up on the screen. Just as quickly, the horrors
of what had happened returned.
"Oh my god." He touched the stump of his arm, thankful he couldn't
see it.
"Did she do this to you?" Vanessa looked into Mickys eyes with
complete seriousness. "If she did this, we need to know. She may
have already hurt a lot of other people."
~What do I do?~ He thought. He realised that Holly was looking at
him. Micky knew what he had to do.
"Did Jayne Chrysler shoot you, Micky?" He had to lie.
"Yes." ~LIE, DAMMIT!~ "I mean no." ~Moron!~
Vanessa turned away. "Thanks Holly." He dissapeared from view.
Micky stood up out of bed.
"Did you take my pants off again?" He looked around for his
jeans. "I only have a headache, why do you need me half naked?!"
"I found these in the pocket when you came in the first time." She
held up the grenades he had stuffed in his pocket. He had totally
forgotten them. He tried to explain.
"Well.... you see.... they, erm..." The lights went black and Micky
sighed a breath of fresh air.
"Micky! The gravity generators gone!" So it had. He went to touch
the floor with his toes, but only succeeded in pushing himself
further away from the floor. He reached out and found Vanessa.
"Hold onto me. You don't want to float into anyth..." Bump. "Okay,
that was the sore spot. Hang on, I think I can..." The gravity came
back online and they both fell through the dark. Vanessa landed on
top of Micky in a heap.
When the lights flickered back into life, Vanessa was looking into
Mickys eyes. He loved moments like this. ~Go for it you moron!~ He
leaned foreward. Stopped. Then burst into Laughter.
Vanessa looked shocked. Slightly idssapointed too.
"Whats so funny?"
Micky couldn't talk for laughing. He just pointed down over her
shoulder.
"Hahaha! Hahaha...my.. haha... my arm!" His holographic arm had
gone right through her in just the right place. "It looks like it's
coming out your ass! Hahahahaa!" More laughter.
Vanessa huffed and shoved herself up off the floor. As she stormed
out the room she stopped and spun round, finger pointed at him.
"You men are all the same!" And stomped off.
Micky remembered Jayne and what had happened. He saw the grenades
and re-pocketed them.
"Holly?"
"Yes." Micky knew there was something wrong when Hollys head
appeared on the screen.
"Turn around Holly."
"Sorry, I thought the lights were still out." He didn't seem quite
all there. Well, as much 'there' as he normally was. Which was
worrying.
"Wheres Jayne Chrysler now?"
"I don't know."
"Why did you want me to lie earlier when I was asked about her?"
"I don't know."
Micky had an idea.
"What time is it Holly?"
"Hang on....." He went off the side of the screen before quickly
coming back. "Nope. Sorry, don't know. That electric shutdown seems
to have left a lot of my processors and memory banks off. You're
going to have to find a way of re-booting them."
"Get Erik on it, I have some more important things to be getting on
with."
"Who's Erik?" Holly looked lost again.
"Skutter Eleven Twenty-Four."
"Oh! Okay."
"Tell him Micky has another errand for him to run." Micky set off
towards the medi-bay door.
"Where are you going then?" Without stopping Micky said over his
shoulder,
"To find Jayne. She owes me an arm." He dashed off, not knowing
wether to be angry at losing his arm, or glad he had his memory back.
