"The Agency" Part 2

Who: Annie
Where: An office in a universe beyond our own
When: Almost half past infinity (in the afternoon)
Annie ran a hand through her long blonde hair and then sat sulking.
Her desk was now covered with several open books, and various scrap
pieces of paper with all sorts of possible timelines scribbled over
them. Several had stick figures of a man in a cowboy hat who had been
scribbled out furiously.
She let out a deep sigh that caught the attention of the person in
the next cubicle.
"Still having problems?" Said Barry, poking his head over the
partition.
Annie looked p. She still hated Barry for always poking his nose in,
but right now she was glad to speak to someone.
"Yeah." She admitted.
"Universe L-388 still?"
She nodded. "It's this one guy. He's being such a dick. I'm trying to
stop him making so many bad choices to make life better for everyone
else in the universe but he just seems insistent on doing the
opposite."
Barry thought for a moment then grinned. "You're too kind blondie.
Give this whole universe up as a bad job, do what I did this morning
with this galaxy
Fd-19
the beings had become so powerful and
intelligent that they'd formed a peaceful existence over the entire
galaxy
I mean, where's the fun in that?"
"Sounds great to me!" Annie beamed.
"No way! Everyone had everything they wanted, nobody had anything to
strive for anymore. Talk about boring." Barry acted a mock yawn.
"So what did you do?"
"I rammed another universe into theirs. You should have seen it
blondie, it was like they were single celled amoebas fighting each
other
the largest things in a universe looking and acting like the
smallest."
"That horrible! What about all the people?"
Barry shrugged. "Our job's not to be kind to people."
"Well I want to."
Barry sucked some air between his teeth. "Be careful Annie, I think
that's your human side talking."
"No it isn't!" Said Annie defensively. "I'm only half human."
Barry shook his head. "Half more than you're supposed to be. Better
keep it quiet."
"Its not a problem. I've been transmogrified."
Barry continued to shake his head.
Annie quickly changed the subject. "So what do I do about universe L-
388?"
"It's just one guy causing a problem?"
Annie nodded.
"Have you gone back into his past and appeared as some religious
figure, like an angel?"
She nodded. "It only worked for a while."
"Alright, what about showing him a possible future?"
"Did that too. He actually preferred it."
Barry laughed. "I'm starting to like this man. It doesn't sound like
this possible future is that bad?"
"At the start, no. But it leads to worse things."
"Like?"
"Horrible, torture... death
special anomalies.... monkeys
look, it's
too complicated to go into right now. It'd just ruin all the research
I've done on this universe so far."
"Alight alright. Do you want me to help?"
Annie thought about the heavy-handed and callous approached Barry
seems to have on his own universe and imagined what he'd do if she
allowed him to help. He'd probably cause was with the click of a
finger and unexpectedly make robot armies attack planets
her thought
trailed off.
"Have you been messing with my universe?" she asked accusingly.
"What? No way, I've been busy all morning with this galaxy where
gravity works backwards. It's real messy."
"Oh okay. Well I think I'll be alright on my own." She said.
She hatched a plot to create some subtle hints to make Captain
Calvert change his mind.
