"Give me the gist"

Who: Captain Calvert and Jay Chrysler
Where: Blue Dwarf
When: The morning after wormhole-jumping away from Shellia
Jay entered the Captain's office just after seeing Rosette LaChance
and Andy Roos leaving. They both tried to avoid his curious gaze, as
if they were desperate to not get into any conversation with him.
Jay looked around. He was certain that Calvert must be the untidiest
Captain in the entire of the JMC, no, the entire galaxy. Papers were
strewn all over the desk and floor, and several top secret documents
were poking out of the paper bin. A greasy steak was being used as a
paperweight, and there was a camp stove in the corner of the room
with a rusty pot of baked beans brewing.
The Captain took a big swig of some corrosive-looking substance and
offered it to Jay. Jay refused, it was the wrong side of lunchtime
for alcohol.
"Captain, here's my report about what happened on Shellia." He
flopped a wedge of paper on his desk. Jay didn't like paperwork, but
all JMC regulations stated that non-standard circumstances had to be
written up in a report. He'd spent several hours of his evening
preparing it.
The Captain sighed at the document and flicked through very
quickly. "Can't yer just give me the brief gist?" he asked.
"Well it all started when we received a distress call..." Jay started.
"Briefer!" Calvert commanded.
"We captured an alien ship, and as we escaped we were attacked by
some other aliens. Some huge metal ships with no hull markings, and
no life signs aboard."
Calvert nodded. Jay didn't know if this was good or bad. After a few
moments of silence, Jay thought he should say something.
"So what are our orders?"
The captain shifted uneasily in his seat. "Did you hear about the
Pink Dwarf?" He asked.
"No... nothing." Said Jay.
"Good." Said Calvert.
"What about it?" Jay asked, he didn't like things being kept from
him.
It was just then that a knock on the door brought Mk10 into the room
clutching a piece of digital paper. "Fax for you Cap'n." He said in
his robotic voice.
Jed snatched the document from the small robot. "Have you read it?"
he interrogated.
"Nah. Looks dead boring. It's from the JMC."
With that the robot turned and left.
"New orders?" The navigation officer asked.
"No." Said the Captain angrily, putting the document out of sight.
"But they're from the JMC. They must be."
"NO!" Calvert said angrily.
Jay almost jumped from the sudden outburst and then just shrugged his
shoulders. "Okay whatever. If you need me to navigate anywhere you
know where I'll be."
Jay left the office, and passed through the busy Drive-Room. Mk10 was
working as acting Ops officer, as he could plug himself into the
computer and control various different aspects of the Blue Dwarf at a
time.
Jay pulled up a chair next to him and sat down. "What did that fax
say?"
"It's confidential, I didnt read it!" Said Mk10, shocked that he was
being accused of spying on confidential documents.
"Really?" Jay asked again.
"Yep. I know nothing."
"REALLY?"
"Alright alright, it's a recall order. The Blue Dwarf's been called
back to Earth to be re-crewed."
"We're loosing our jobs?" said Jay. His entire world crashed around
him, he had been on this ship for so long he'd forgotten what it
would be like to work anywhere else.
Mk10 continued. "The Pink Dwarf has been sent to tow us back, but
where are they? According to the logs on the Blue Dwarf comms
computer we communicated with them last week, but then no word since."
Jay narrowed his eyes. "Andy Roos and Rosette LaChance were still
onboard then weren't they?"
"Yes why?"
"I just saw them looking suspicious." Said Jay and ran out of the
Drive-Room after them.
<Tag!> Not the most exciting of tags, as we all know what happened,
but I felt in an investagatorative mood! Sorry Andy for using your
character without permission, but he's a good spokesman for the crew
and wanted to show he's suspicious of Jed.
If the rumour of being transferred spreads amongst the crew, how will
people react?
Are people feeling mutinous against the Captain, or would they want
to stick two fingers up at the JMC?
What happened to the team of Shellites on the ship?
Where is the SC Oath-Keeper?
