After two hours of walking, the group was strung out over quite a
long section of the track. Yuri was somewhere near the middle, giving
a running commentary to an avid Efof and a bored Vanessa, with Johnny
trudging slightly behind. Joe followed just after, with Jessie
bringing up the rear.
As they walked, Jessie fumed silently, her mind running round in
circles, stuck on one thought. She had let herself be caught! If a
mere bounty hunter could capture her with no trouble, then what would
happen when Sandra found her? She'd be like a rat in a barrel!
She came out of her reverie to hear Yuri describing thier quarry.
"The Siberian Burrowing Hamster is found only in these mountains.
They are shy, but far too common, as they breed like rodents."
Kevn, who was up ahead with Jay and Katrina, called back over his
shoulder, "So where do we start looking then? Down the rabbit holes?"
Yuri shook his head. "No. The mountains are literally honeycombed
with abandoned burrows. Be careful, though. They're not very stable,
and walking over them loosens the soil even more. The biggest danger is..."
He was interrupted by a cry from behind as Jessie and Joe dropped out
of sight, into one of the aforementioned burrows. Which had just collapsed.
"...falling into them."
