Road trip!!!!

Who: Callum 'CK' Kochanski, Guinevere Winters
Where: Above the Auxiliary power generator
When 3 hours after the last post
CK and Guinevere were working above the power generator. Kochanski
at the computer console, testing the repair work which they'd just
finished on the first coolant valve. While Winters hanged upside
down from a catwalk that stood above the reactor as she finished up
work on the actual coolant pipeline.
"There!" She said as she climbed back up to examine her
efforts. "Everything's done."
"Yep, it all looks good to me." replied Callum as he ran a computer
sim of the repair work. "Let's get this baby running." Callum hit a
button and he and Winters waited as the massive generators began to
come into life.
"Right," began the newbie engineer. "What's next on the list?"
"Well I'm not sure," CK replied. "We've restored limited main power
and we've managed to cobble together a couple of laser cannons for
Jack. Our main problem now is the fact that our engines are running
on empty and we barley have any hull armour. Plus the fact we can't
get the Wormhole Drive online without some spare parts.
"Well where as the nearest supply base?" Winters answered. "Surly
there must be a couple left..."
"I guess, but they'd be pretty far away…" Callum leant up against
the wall and began to think. "I know!" He shouted all of a sudden as
he belted across the room to a computer console. "A derelict! There
must be hundreds of ships left adrift after the battle with Jay's
fleet."
"Of course."
Callum checked the sensor logs and confirmed his belief, and then
opened a comm. Channel directly to the Captains Office.
"Yo Phil!" he called informally
"What is it now Kochanski?" The captain groaned wearily.
"I've managed to repair the power systems." The engineer answered,
giving Phil the good news first. "But if you want the wormhole drive
or any defence systems we're gonna have to find some extra supplies
and repair equipment."
"And where are you planning to find it?" Phil asked sarcastically.
"Well me and my staff have been discussing that problem." CK took a
moment to wink at Guinevere. "And we've talked about heading back
towards earth with a Starbug. There are plenty of supplies littered
on those derelicts."
"Are you serious Kochanski?" Phil shouted from the other end of the
line. "We're all ready number one most wanted with Jay and Amber on
board and now you want to go back and plunder some derelicts?!?"
"Well quite frankly sir I don't think we have many other options…"
"OK Kochanski, you can go back…" Callum waited for a but. "But you
have to take all the proper equipment with you and you've got to
take a decent pilot and someone from ship defence. Blue Dwarf will
wait here until you get back but if the Space Corp. come looking
your on your own, understood?"
"Yes sir." The comm. line closed and Callum opened a new
line. "Attention…. Kara McGellen and Jessie Carter report to hanger
bay 1." As he closed the channel Callum wiped his hands on a rag and
headed for the door. Then he turned around… "What about you Winters,
you coming or what? Guinevere looked up and smiled as she ran to
catch up before the large doors closed…..
