Tib’s Corner – My Ongoing Worlds Experience #KeepCalmKeepOngoing

header_monster3Hey guys, Tib here. Well, Happy New Years! But first, was 2013 really a year? It felt like a month didn’t it? Anyway. The year is over and a new one is here! And even though I haven’t even been here a year yet this site has just helped me so much and has given me so much fun in the past few months. My experience here has been amazing, I’ve had ups and downs and I’ve been screwed by so many online groups before but not by you guys. So before I get into what this is really about, all kidding aside, I want to say thank you, to all of you. OW is one of the reasons I wake up in the morning, without you guys I just wouldn’t have had the experience I’ve had here. The games, the camaraderie I’ve had with the members, the blog position, and just the writing overall. In the 6 months and 10 days I’ve been here, you guys have made it just unforgettable and so remarkable, thank you. Anyway, now that I’m past the part that made me choke up a bit. I want to know about your OW experience, from the beginning to now. Submit in the form and let the entire roleplaying your experience you’ve had with this site. The deadline for submissions will be January 8th, 2014 with a possible extension if needed. Read More

Tournament of Simulation Winners Announced

Joust-tournament-of-roleplaying-simsThe Tournament of Simulations is pleased to announce the winners of this year’s tournament.

Over the past six weeks, a dozen judges busily reviewed the nearly 50 games that chose to enter this year’s tournament.  Each game reviewed was compelling in its own right, full of dedicated players and entertaining stories.  Nothing should be taken away from those that took part but did not place; for in the end this year’s competition was extremely tight, with mere points separating first and second place, and many places beyond that.  In the end, the14 winning games, representing 8 groups, and spanning 10 genres, are representative of the diversity and creativity present throughout our entire gaming community. Enter your game into the Tournament of Sims

ToS doesn't have a logo, so here's another exciting tournament!

ToS doesn’t have a logo, so here’s another exciting tournament!! 😛

Hey roleplayers, I wanted to let you know about a fantastic competition that’s been running for quite a few years and would be quite prestigious to win!

It’s called the Tournament of Simulations (“simulations” or “sims” being another word for play-by-post roleplay, used quite a lot in Star Trek communities). Judges will take a look at your game, read your posts over a certain time period and assess everything about your game including plot, characters, writing, and member participation.

There’s not much time to act on this, as entries close on the 5th of November – So make sure to submit your game asap. Read More

FallFest image by James Drysdale

What an outstanding FallFest!  Indeed, Diego and the entire support team from UFOP: StarBase 118 put on an absolutely fantastic show.  I actually counted 50 people in chat room #1 at one point during the first hour.  Wow!  Maybe next year we’ll need to expand to three events at once.  Who knows?

Anyway, I’d like to again thank everyone who had some hand in putting FallFest together.  We had contributors from seven different clubs (United Federation of Peaceful Simmers, Ongoing WorldsUFOP: StarBase 118Phoenix RoleplayingUCIPNew Worlds Project, and Independence Fleet).  So without any further ado, here they all are: Read More

M.I.A.Y.R.W.M.O – Why you’d be mad to miss Fall Fest 2013

Fallfest banner

This article was written by Ed Brown, aka Diego Herrera from Starbase 118, the chair of this year’s Fallfest.

It’s easy for the host of an event to turn around and brandish clichéd slogans about their events. “Miss it, miss out” is a great example of that – a stopgap phrase that works wonders for fluffing out a generic advert that doesn’t seem too exciting. That’s why in this case we need extra letters – miss it and you really will miss out – and I’m even prepared to go the extra mile and tell you why! This year’s fall fest is crammed to the gunnels with SIMming discussions that will help you bone up on your RPG know how no matter which group you belong to, science fiction trivia and live SIMs and our very own Fall Fest DJ, all hosted by UFOP: Starbase 118. Sound like a blast yet? Read on. Read More

2012 FallFest logo

That’s right, host/chair applications are now being accepted for the biggest simming event of the year: FallFest 2013!  That statement immediately begs two questions:

First, what is FallFest?

FallFest is short for the Simming Fall Festival.  It’s an annual one-day extravaganza sponsored by Ongoing Worlds that’s dedicated to everything about or relating to online simming and role playing.  It takes place over the course of several hours in IRC chatrooms and will feature chat role plays, interactive games, and topical discussions & workshops.  Participants get to meet other role players from around the globe, learn more about their craft, and have fun all at the same time.
