Announcing the 2014 Squiddie Award Winners!

Ongoing Worlds Medal for Superior Online Roleplaying

With the Oscars now conveniently out of the way, it’s time to present our top award for the entire simming and online role playing community: the Ongoing Worlds Medal for Superior Online Roleplaying, or more affectionally known as the Squiddies.  For anyone who hasn’t yet read about the award, we present three respective citations annually for Excellence in Role Playing, Facilitating the Community Experience, and Originality and Innovation.

We received 32 nominations this year, and unfortunately, we are only able to present Squiddies to three: one club, one game, and one person.  What a challenge as all of the nominees are deserving in their own right.  So without any further ado, here are the winners of the 2014 Ongoing Worlds Medal for Superior Online Roleplaying: Read More

Congrats to all of our Squiddie Nominees!

Nominations for this year’s Ongoing Worlds Medal for Superior Online Role Playing (affectionally known as the Squiddie Award) ended yesterday.  In case you missed it, we asked the entire online role playing community to nominate the best people, games, and clubs for the highest honor bestowed by this organization.  We received 41 total nominations for 32 different people/games/clubs.  And wow, what a great list it is!

Unfortunately, we’re only able to present the award to three (one person, one game, and one club).  We certainly have our work cut out for us!  Without any further ado, let’s introduce the nominees… Read More

Tib & Xann awarded the OWCH

The OWCH awardYou might have seen a fair few blog articles recently written by Tib, in his “Tib’s corner” segment, and also Xan/Mike’s regular game summary articles. Bothe of these members have also been a great help in the chatbox, often at hand to help moderate spam and keeping things civil.

This is why I’ve decided to award Xan and Tib the OWCH (OngoingWorlds Community Honor)! Both of these members have been a great asset to our community. Read More

Ongoing Worlds Medal for Superior Online Role Playing

Better known, of course, as the Squiddie Awards.  That’s right, we’re officially accepting Squiddie nominations now through February 10th.

If you’re not familiar with the Squiddies, last cycle’s winners can be found here.  The Squiddie Award is the top honor presented annually by Ongoing Worlds.  Each year it is bestowed to three different entities: one person, one sim/game, and one club.  Prior winners are not eligible for future awards.

Squiddies are presented for exemplifying one or more of the following characteristics, primarily during the previous calendar year:

  • Excellence in role playing
  • Originality and innovation
  • Facilitating the community experience

Tournament of Simulation Winners Announced

Joust-tournament-of-roleplaying-simsThe Tournament of Simulations is pleased to announce the winners of this year’s tournament.

Over the past six weeks, a dozen judges busily reviewed the nearly 50 games that chose to enter this year’s tournament.  Each game reviewed was compelling in its own right, full of dedicated players and entertaining stories.  Nothing should be taken away from those that took part but did not place; for in the end this year’s competition was extremely tight, with mere points separating first and second place, and many places beyond that.  In the end, the14 winning games, representing 8 groups, and spanning 10 genres, are representative of the diversity and creativity present throughout our entire gaming community. Ed gets his Flashback week prize

edbrownYou’ll remember a couple of weeks ago Ed Brown won the Flashback Week competition? I sent him his prize, a snazzy OngoingWorlds mug which he’s received and has taken this photo of him with his prize.

Ed is known in the Starbase 118 community as Diego Herrera, the very same who’d volunteered to chair last week’s Fallfest chat. It was a few days into the planning of Fallfest when I realised I was chatting to the same person! (I felt a bit dumb).  Read More

What a great FallFest & two OWCH for the price of one

FallFest image by James Drysdale

What an outstanding FallFest!  Indeed, Diego and the entire support team from UFOP: StarBase 118 put on an absolutely fantastic show.  I actually counted 50 people in chat room #1 at one point during the first hour.  Wow!  Maybe next year we’ll need to expand to three events at once.  Who knows?

Anyway, I’d like to again thank everyone who had some hand in putting FallFest together.  We had contributors from seven different clubs (United Federation of Peaceful Simmers, Ongoing WorldsUFOP: StarBase 118Phoenix RoleplayingUCIPNew Worlds Project, and Independence Fleet).  So without any further ado, here they all are: Read More

OWCH awarded to Jack Tennant & other awards

The OWCH awardI’m proud to announce that I’m awarding the OWCH award (OngoingWorlds community honour) to Jack Tennant, for being an awesome member in Blue Dwarf and for going “above and beyond” being just a member of a roleplaying game. For months Jack has been recording the Blue Dwarf story into an audio podcast, a task which isn’t as easy as it sounds. it takes careful planning, organisation, practice, a talent for recording your voice and… well… the guts to record your voice in the first place! Believe me it does take guts, and I’m almost an emotional wreck when I record things like the how-to Youtube videos. Read More
