What’s the downside to your character’s superpower?

Cyanide and happiness comic

I saw this Cyanide & Happiness cartoon and thought it was a great lesson for us roleplayers (and all writers everywhere actually). Characters without limitations are just boring (see our article about God-man and all our articles about god-modding). Read More

Heartbleed doesn’t affect OngoingWorlds, don’t panic

A bug. Maybe roleplay monster?Hi everyone, sorry for the potentially boring blog post about web security, so I’m going to make it up to you by telling a joke at the bottom. Some people have asked me today about how vulnerable the OngoingWorlds website is to this Heartbleed SSL bug that has hit the news.

Short answer, you’ll probably be fine.

Long answer, you’re no more at risk than ever really. OngoingWorlds isn’t affected by the bug, but there’s a chance someone could hack another site you’re a member of, and discover your username/password combination. If you’ve used that same combination on OngoingWorlds, someone could login as you.  Read More

Anyway this lead to Tib inventing and using the fantastic hashtag #PraiseTheTurnip (if you’ve not used it, go ahead and tweet it!).

Misty Wilson from Phoenix roleplaying

Written by Misty from Phoenix Roleplaying

This article was written by Misty from Phoenix Roleplaying where she’s the Advertising and Community Officer. Misty also roleplays as Kateri in The Dark Cometh

We all have those things in life that aggravate us. Just like there are things in Roleplay that annoy us. And on the occasion, tremendously….Some, more than others and some people more than others. No, I am not saying some folks are annoying, even if the fact is sometimes true. I’m saying that some people tend to get annoyed more easily than others might. And some things are just plain more annoying than others. Read More

Some scene setting prompts from Starbase 118

writing-hand

There’s been a good article published recently on the Starbase 118 community blog, with some starting points which might encourage you to think about setting the scene in your own posts. They have some example paragrpahs showing how putting effort into describing the scene can make it seem so much more real, and I encourage you to take a look. Read More
