Coronavirus lockdown – time for creative writing with friends?
At the time I’m writing this, people around the world are staying indoors to prevent the spread of Covid-19. This lockdown period won’t last forever, but will mean you’re going to spend a lot of time indoors, & switching your favourite outdoor activities with indoor ones. If you have children, fret not because you can still have some fun in your backyard thanks to products like the best wooden playhouses for sale.
Maybe now is a good time to start writing that story you’ve always wanted to?
On OngoingWorlds, you can write a story with the added benefit that you can write with friends. Something more social than writing alone.
If you’ve never heard of OngoingWorlds before, or any sort of online creative writing (some people call it roleplay, or “simming”), here’s a brief description:
- Create a “Game”, this is the hub of the story.
- Create a character, this will be your protagonist in this story you’re going to write.
- Write “posts”, these can be as short or as long as you want. It could be a significant chunk of story, or a small part, with a cliffhanger allowing someone else to continue it.
- Invite a friend to write with you. They can create a character too, and start by writing their own post. Maybe their character will meet yours, maybe they’ll start a conversation, which you can continue in another post, or maybe they’ll continue the adventure in a way that you have to continue.
There’s many games on OngoingWorlds already that you can join, of all different genres. To join, you’ll have to create a character, and be approved by the game’s moderators. Then you’ll be free to write posts to continue the game’s existing storyline.
